Good idea, but not sure Grubauer would waive.

Hawks would just keep Jones. All the stench on him for overpaying in the trade and contract makes people forget that he's actually still good. Hawks will need to hit the cap floor anyways, the assets we gave up are a sunk cost, and Seth is about to be named our next captain in the offseason anyways

I think Dunn is going to command quite a bit more than that. With the year he’s having and his trajectory I think he’ll be asking for #1 money in the $6m+ range.

Yeah. Personally, I wouldn't mind moving Jones. But it just isn't gonna happen for all of these reasons.

Hawks would have to overpay a lot of players just to hit the cap floor next season if they traded Jones. It'd take a big overpay and jones would have to come out and ask for a trade just so the hawks could save face with other free agents looking to sign long term deals.

What about taking one of Grubauer, Gourde, or Wennberg? Assuming one of them would waive.

You mean as part of the jones trade? Probably not. Grubauer and wenneberg are just cap dumps so seattle would have to add even more to the deal as compensation. Gourde is a good player hawks would take him off your hands for free but they're not paying for 31 year olds. Plus he's got a pretty crazy ntc that I guarantee prevents a trade to the hawks

I have to disagree with my fellow Hawk fans here and readily accept the Jones trade as shown. Hawks will even through in his brother Caleb to help even out the contracts going back and forth. The 2024 1st alone is enough for me to unload that contract. Firkus and Goyette may not turn into anything and Schultz, if healthy, can play RD for a year. There are ways to get to the cap floor. Teams will be looking for cap space this summer and the Hawks could take on some bad contracts, or sign Domi/Athanasiou types for a year.

As for Jones being the next captain, LOL. Being the highest paid guy on the team doesn't qualify him for the captaincy. To me he shows very little leadership which is not the type of guy you want wearing the "C". Teams have gone a few years without a captain. It won't hurt Chicago to wait until someone deserving of the position shows up.

I don't think Seth Jones is really a realistic target for the Kraken, because as shown here adding him and his hefty contract will lock an emerging team into cap hell. In this ACGM the team already had to trade a very good center in Yanni Gourde along with a 2nd round pick for basically cap relief, which in my opinion is a terrible deal to make. Not to mention Dunn will likely get a couple million more in AAV on his next deal. What will happen when Beniers is due for a raise? This to me seems like the Kraken going through too many contortions and giving up too many assets for not enough improvement.
