Where’s the need?
Where’s the fit?

At this point, Charlie Coyle is a better center than Toews, and definitely better for a third line role. Neither of these guys are going to get on the powerplay much, non-powerplay numbers this year:
Coyle- 11 goals - 17 assists - 28 points
Toews- 6 goals - 11 assists - 17 points.

Why race to do this?

Chicago would probably be willing to give up a 4th or 5th to make the trade work. Minor difference of a few spots (likely) but I figure the Hagel trade set the market for swapping later round picks with firsts (For reference Chicago and Tampa swapped 1sts and 4ths)

1 - why would they want him
2 - a 2nd and 3rd gets him, moving what amounts to 1m in Smith for the rest of the season is not worth upping that to 1st/Beecher.
3 - rather have Zboril than Bealieu

When it’s all said and done that’s a bad deal for Boston even if they did want him.

I'd take Toews on this team, but if you want a 1st you need to swap Beecher for Reilly. Here's the problem though. CHI & ANH are both in a race to the bottom for Bedard. Why would ANH want to help CHI get worse l, when all they're getting in return is Zboril + 3rd?

I would definitely say the experience has a lot to do with it. Point totals aren't the only part that GMs look at. Toews faceoff percentage is 63% this year. Coyle 53%.

Would you classify improving at face offs as a bruins priority? I think they’re third in the league or around there. Does getting a little better at face offs justify bumping coyle out of position? He’s not nearly as affective at wing. They’ve got a good thing going here, i don’t get the rush to make dramatic changes.

Regarding experience, most of the team has been to a game 7 cup final. They’re fine.
