Making the LAK a serious Cup contender

Team: 2022-23 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 3, 2023
Published: Feb. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Acquire Cam Talbot from Ottawa to strengthen goalkeeping for at least the playoff run. Ottawa agrees to take Quick in order to get Durzi. LAK could then use the additional cap space created by trading Quick to acquire Chychrun. Bjornfot and Turcotte were selected in the Arizona trade to represent one young D and one young F among the many LAK prospects. Could be Clarke and Kaliyev?

Both of these trades are terrible. The Kings aren't trading a quality defenseman like Durzi for a rental goaltender. He could return a 1st round pick on his own.

Quick will not be traded. He'll finish the season with the Kings and the only question is whether or not he'll retire at the end of the season. They're not going to end a Hall of Fame career with one franchise with a 6-week stint in Ottawa.

The Kings won't trade Bjornfot (or Anderson). The idea is to get more LHD, not just an upgrade. They're desperately short at LHD as it is.

This is obviously from a Ottawa fan looking to fleece the Kings.

We have only two NHL-qualified LhDs under team control for 2023-2024. We won't be trading either one of them for any conceivably rational reason (unless Arizona is willing to take Bjornfot and a first and nothing else for Chychrun).

We might -- just might -- invest a third in Talbot at the trade deadline, if it looks like all three of our goalies are fading or injured. We certainly won't trade a second-pairing right-handed defenseman for him, and trading Jonathan Quick for him is unmentionable.

We might trade Clarke or Kaliyev for Jake Sanderson, straight up.
