Personally I wouldn’t do the Wings trade, but I like Hronek more than most and hope he is the long term RD2 behind Seider.

If you're going to just scratch Lyubushkin, can Columbus have him? Please?

Jokiharju is a downgrade at RD from the offensive production standpoint but he's still a decent defender at the NHL level and it wouldn't leave an enormous hole that Detroit couldn't overcome. He's also on a good contract and still and RFA. I really like Kulich's game so it could be worth swapping Hronek for Jokiharju. Kulich is just the type of player that gets better as the pressure of the moment increases.

Detroit would have to think about this.

Detroit can't trade Hronek right now. After Seider and Hronek we're thin at RD. Our best D prospects are LD's.

Here's something most haven't considered: Hronek is almost exactly a RH version of Sergachev, but he's 7 months older and has a more favorable contract. Both of which are better than Chychrun.

So, if you want Hronek, ask yourself if you'd pay the price for Sergachev, or even Chychrun. Chances are, Hronek will not be moving for anything short of a significant package considering his contract and the fact he's a RHD which is less common than a LHD.

Good RHD are much harder to come by than LHD and Detroit has 2. Unless StevieY is going to tear the current ship down by also trading Bert and Larkin then I highly doubt he'd trade Hronek.

Finding top 4 RD's is hard. They're rare. It's why everyone wants them.

I couldn't agree more on the fact that Hronek is better than Chychrun, at least right now. Chychrun is one of the most overrated D. Trading Hronek would not be smart. If (BIG IF) they did, it would take a 1st, a topish 20 pick that is a RD prospect (Brandt Clarke type) at a minimum.

I wouldn't go that far. Chychrun's 3 and 4 year GAR and WAR are both substantially better than Hronek. But I wouldn't trade Hronek either.

It's really the fact that Chychrun is being talked or sold as a top 10 defender in the NHL when he is not and really is not even that close.

Maybe Hronek isn't as good as Chychrun for 3/4 years, but at this moment he is better. The strides he's made this year alone (d-wise) with already being better offensively.

The question for Hronek is whether this year is an outlier or his new normal or near-normal? Hopefully the latter and not the former.

And Chychrun was 10th in Norris Trophy voting in 2021. smile
