Initial Creation Date: Feb. 1, 2023

Description
Resign Drouin on a 1 yr deal for 1.5-2.5M see if he can finally reach his potential

Habs pick Will Smith, Benson or Yager at 6/7 unless they miraculously win the lottery otherwise all best are off.

Assuming Monaghan isn't healthy enough to trade at the deadline. Trade his rights at the draft to someone who wants to sign him for a 5th round pick?

Trading Hoffman for a 2nd plus is what you should be focused on not how many pundits have confirmed the price on Anderson not fans actual insiders.
Saying you appreciate an ACGM with no merit is wild

Better off giving Drouin's roster spot to a fresh face.

Monahan can be traded for a conditional pick to mitigate the injury risk. 1st/2nd if it works out, 3rd/4th if it doesn't.
Rights would be a low chance of a taker. He's likely going to sign for money/term or pick his destination on a redemption contract regardless of who he's with.

The difference of points between 3rd and 7th overall is 4 points, habs have the hardest SOS of the league, might just get a top 4 pick tbh.

They are on pace to finish with more man games lost to injury than last years record breaking season with so many guys on LTIR for the remainder of the season.

Even with their solid start, I was saying this is a bottom 5 team.

Arizona/Chicago/Vancouver/San Jose/Anaheim will all be playing each other more often in conference while Mtl only plays 3 more games vs the bottom 5. The bottom feeders will accidentally fall into more points.

He's a rental and canes have space with Pacioretty on I/R they a need another scoring winger. Maybe they find it elsewhere, but for a 5 or 6th round pick , not much risk. IMO. Someone will take a flyer on him for a low round pick.

Look at what Lehkonen and Chiarot got last year. David Savard a few years ago. LA needs a vet LD. Edmundson has another year on his contract as well, sonots not like he walks. LA is overloaded with prospect ahead of Turcotte. He is expendable. He is most definitely a potential option. It's the price you pay at the deadline.

I ran the draft simulator a few times, habs won 3 out of 10. That was at 7th place. Simulator had em picking second another time. I like the chances with favourable schedule.

You overlook one key factor: Edmundson couldn't fill their jocks in a GOOD year, and he's not having a good year.

He makes 5m and isn’t good. Nobody is giving up assets for him in a flat cap. Canes can fit him in but he doesn’t solve anything for us so they’ll use that cap space on an impact player versus a wasted roster spot.

Agree. He hasn't been good. But our whole team hasn't been good defensively. I don't think it's as much of an Edmundson problem as it a team problem. New team, renewed player. Similar to Petry last year. It's the circumstances. Maybe the kings don't want em but there's reports they have interest. Among other teams, so the competition drives up the price.

Teams are picking up any help they can get for the playoffs. I didn't have it in the details, but gotta think someone takes a chance on him for 3rd line depth scoring if MTL retains salary for a later pick.. On a good team surrounded talent he adds playoff depth scoring. Maybe it's a 6th or even a 7th.

I don't how the Jets would decline this if they know he doesn't want to play there and will go somewhere else. He's an RFA so it's almost the equivalent of an offer sheet. Jets get two Centers (that's not a need?) one of the them a 5th overall pick, plus an established two way third line center possible 2nd under a good contract and grade A defensive prospect ready for the NHL.

You'd rather have the 12th overall pick this year - likely a lower tier center than Turcotte and Mesar plus what?. Jets consider this for sure at the draft if it's offered to them.

That's fair....what would you pay?

Swap the second with a 4th?

Howden and Callum ....no pick?

He has another year on his contract, so he can always be traded for assets next year or you get two seasons from him. It's why I had the second pick originally. MTL retains salary, so there's value there.

What do you think is fair value?

So you think you just let him loose for nothing? We ll have all kinds of cap space next year. Sign him for 1-2M. He has to earn the roster spot, if he doesn't no big deal, put him in the press box or on waivers. If he plays great awesome. We have an asset to use. Potential is there when he plays. Problem is he is never playing. I can see cutting him loose for cap space, but that won't be an issue. No risk signing him on a prove it deal.

I truly hope we keep em. We need some veterans to play with the kids. He scores, hits and skates and seems to be a great locker room guy. Need him out there for protection of Suzuki, Caufield, Dach. And he can play with those guys. He's also on a great contract. Would be silly to give him up for picks. I don't see any value in trading him unless it's an insane offer. Which may very well happen.

Fair. What are the NYR trying to add for the playoffs then?

What's the price for Kravstov and Gauthier. We'll take Blais to help you out with cap space.

Most likely NYR will add a rental top 6 Rw (I hope not but that is another discussion)

As for value really hard to judge? Some depth center prospects or like 2nd/3rd round pick and like 4th/5th round pick that can be dealt at the TDL for depth (if needed) I'm not sure how much Kravtsov is determined to stay and work though it hence I'm not sure where to value him. Gauthier is like 4th/5th pick player it looks like.
