Down year or not, no one is rushing to give their best assets for a guy with trade protection and 7 years left. If they are interested in him, they would try to get him for the cheapest as possible.

I don't see the fit here just based on the cap, unless they know Matthews is walking in FA and they are hoping Parayko is enough to put them over the top to win.

Leafs certainly don't need 6.25m Parayko next season. Even as UFA he would be an iffy signing at best. Then to add a first. second, third and expected NHL starters in 2024 Niemela. Outrageously high for any team to make that offer to the Blues.
