Description
Fear Mike Grier when he wants to make a trade
Retention costs a first, even if it’s really late
Dubas would do this, if he could part ways with Knies
Ask is for Meier, no shyer than what’s advertised
But maybe, just maybe, he’d throw Bonino in
At which point Dubas adds prospects who we know in
Like Der-Arguchintsev and Nick Abruzzese
Now this dance is as dirty as Patrick Swayze
Include Alex Kerfoot to make the cap compliant
Now maybe the fans won’t be so defiant

You can't post ACGMs now without a rap now.

I think you should change "But maybe, just maybe, he’d throw Bonino in" to But maybe, just maybe, he’d throw in Bonino" the flow for that verse would be better, you would need to adjust the next verse though. Maybe you can change it to "At which point Dubas adds prospects that we know".

I wouldn't be surprised if it cost more. The Leafs don't seem to have a lot of trust in Sandin going into the playoffs, I wouldn't be surprised to see him added to a deal like this. Something like Sandin instead of the prospects which would let the Leafs keep Kerfoot.

1st round pick
Sandin
Knies

for

Meier (3 mil retained)
Bonino

That's fair. I'll just leave it, but I'll make an addendum here.

If they trade Sandin, they will probably want Benning (if they think he's a good fit) instead of Bonino, I think he's a more physical defender too, so that would make more sense in terms of what they wanted to add.

SJ just signed Benning to term, doubt he's going anywhere. I figured they'd shop elsewhere for a physical defenseman of some kind. A Schenn or maybe Seeler in Philly.

Does anyone want to talk about how much it will cost for the Leafs to sign Meier? They have no cap room for another $8M+ contract

That's true but if they are getting Sandin in the trade they might be open to it. I would be surprised if Dubas gives up both Knies and Sandin though. They would have two guys playing their off-wing but I don't think that would be much of an issue for them right now. Maybe the Leafs throw in a goalie prospect as a sweetener if the Sharks are super high on Benning.

If the Leafs aren't trading Sandin in a Meier trade though, then yeah I think Seeler could be a guy, I think there is too much going on around with Schenn and Dubas probably wants someone that isn't likely to regress next year.

It's possible to fit him if he's getting signed for 8m, but chances are the assumption would be that they reflip him. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't include Knies in an offer for Meier.

I enjoyed this.

Knies & 2023 1st is definitely going to be the starting ask for Meier. But Dubas doesn't do it.

If the price comes down as deadline approaches, would offer 1st & multiple prospects (or additional draft picks) in lieu of Knies.

Extending Meier would be highly unlikely-- but possible if in the offseason Nylander (or another asset) is flipped to re-coup assets.

Even for a non-rental, there is doubt amongst the insiders. Dubas would have acquired Chychrun right now if he was good with moving Knies, but he's not
