Description

NJD Head Pro Scout is Al Santilli has been attending a lot of Montreal games since early January. Often bringing with him NJD’s Quebec-based scout, and former Habs GM, Andre Savard. While I don’t normally think that means much, especially since his recent attendance can be explained by the teams’ upcoming matchup. (I’m usually the guy saying it means nothing, scouts go to games all the time). But, who knows, maybe there is some signal in the noise.

Who would they be looking at?

Hoffman hasn’t been great. Drouin wasn’t playing for some of those games. Same for Slafkovsky and Caufield. Monahan has been out for all of them. I suppose Dvorak could be possible. I doubt MTL moves Dach that quickly. Can’t be Dadonov. Suzuki is a little pricey for a 3C. Edmundson would probably be more of summer thing. Armia and Gallagher aren’t good fits at this stage. Maybe Pezzata as depth guy.

Josh Anderson lol, or maybe one of the rentals in Drouin (he's back now I think), Dadonov or Hoffman. The later two might not have been doing well but maybe that's why they are taking a lot of time to scout them.

He meant 3C as he would be their 3rd C after Hischier and Hughes, but Suzuki is more or less a Hischier, habs need a Hughes, which could be Dach or one of the C in the 2023 draft.

They weren’t all playing. And rentals, especially high AAV ones, seem really unlikely. Dvorak is my guess. Unless they view Edmundson as improvement on Smith as priority. Other than those two, I am at a total loss on who they would be looking at.

Why did you include obviously untouchable players like Suzuki and Dach, but intentionally left out Anderson? It's most likely him.

Even then…at his salary, 15 pts in 26 games, isn’t a guy who would push NJD to next level. Maybe if he were retained and supercheap.

Trading Dvorak doesn't really make sense for Montreal for that kind of return.

I didn’t mean to suggest NJD were there to look at Suzuki, Dach, Caufield….I was trying to say it’s not them.

It may just be a whole lotta nothing. But it might be Dvorak or Edmundson, if anyone.

.58 ppg is higher than what tatar mercer zetterlund sharangovich haula mcleod wood bastian holtz boqvist have this season.

Since december 1st he would be 5th on the team in scoring he would be a improvement

I think we are trying for top-6 wing…or maybe bottom-six center if Boqvist doesn’t show more consistency.

(But who knows, maybe it’s something neither fanbase is considering)

Could also be an open-ended visit. If the rumors are indeed true, that Kent really wants Johnsson, maybe the Devils are saying, “Ok, we’ll give you Mango, let us check out your roster to see if any sparks our interest”.

Given the other main person the Devils have been linked to is Meier its obvious that its Josh anderson.

The weakness in the Devils lineup is pretty obvious. The forward core is undersized and a bit soft.

Zetterlund and Bastian are the only 2 that are 200 lbs and If the Devils pick up a few guys Bastian probably isnt in the lineup.

Josh would bring size and speed to the lineup along with someone who can fight if needed (something the team also lacks from its regulars) and would currently be 4th on the team in goals

If the price for Meier ends up being too much its pretty obvious Josh is plan B

If we are adding a guy in lineup to replace Bastian, it would not be someone at $5.5m deal long-term. Would have to be under $3m and cost very cheap (like Bastian).

Habs fans are expecting some huge Meier-sized package for Anderson. It is not even worth talking about until someone presents something reasonable.

No…not at all. In fact, I have said there is probably interest there. At the right price and AAV. He has to be under $3m.
