Detroit declines. We're not sellers. First we're not allowed to re-sign our own players. Now we can't compete for a playoff spot? I love CFACGM. 🤭

Swap Greenway for Addison and DET should glady accept. Addison is in Deano's doghouse. Flip Greenway to another team as he will be gone before the draft anyway.

While I hear your take about keeping players for a playoff run, but not trading Bert for assets would be so dumb and poor asset mgmt... this team is not going for the cup, they are going for a wildcard spot. Getting a first, top prospects or multiple pieces while staying competitive using the log jam at forward is what should happen. The Wings can easily trade Bert and ice Vrana or vise versa.

If you want Addison (which I am very open to) you aren’t also getting the 1st.

We've been selling at the trade deadline for the past 6 years. Yzerman isn't selling if he has a chance at making the playoffs. That's been his goal all along. His words. Not mine. Bert is still a big part of this team whether you like it or not. Trading him for peanuts right when his game is taking off is certainly foolish.

Yeah, I could see Addy and a 2nd with Masters. Bert will be a very hot commodity at the deadline, IF moved. I still think they should move him.

So Minni trades a first and can't resign Bertuzzi either. Seems like a waste of a pick.

I wouldn't call it peanuts, but I respect your opinon. Adding a player like Addson would be great for the Wings RH side of the D. Him and Chariot would be a solid 3rd pair for the next couple of years while Maata plays with Hronek and Walman (most likely resigned) plays with Mo. Edvidsson and Wallinder will take over for Maata and Walman soon enough.

I wouldn't give more than a 2nd (Addison or Greenway also work) for a Bertuzzi rental. The salary retention means nothing for MN.

That is what Bert will command unless the prospect is something better and the pick becomes lower. If I'm Guerin I'm not making Bert a priority unless he thinks he can sign him for 5x5, which if Greenway and Addison is offloaded the cap will work next year with steady vets or prospects taking the spot.

Detroit can easily sign Bertuzzi, but Minnesota can't for what he's going to ask. Which is similar to the Boldy deal.

Making the playoffs just to get ripped by Boston and let Bert walk for nothing is horrible asset management. A solid prospect or first round pick is way more important to this team in the long run than 4-5 games (with or without Bert) in April.

Yeah let's keep repeating this same loser's mentality this season too. And the year after that. And the year after that one. Because selling each trade deadline is best. We've been selling for 6 trade deadlines now. Maybe we'll be ready to contend in the playoffs when Larkin is 35? Yeah that's the ticket.

Because teams never build in stages. Players never have to learn how to win in the playoffs. It's much better to just play it safe and stay on the sidelines where my opponents can't hurt me.

I'm sure Yzerman hates competing for a playoff spot even though he told all Red Wings fans last Summer it was his #1 goal.

But yay! Let's sell again and add to our 4 million draft picks! You know what? I'm going to order a brand new shiny Red Wings jersey now on nhlshop.com

It's going to read "2nd Rd Pick" on the back. Not Seider. Not Larkin. Not Raymond. Just "2nd Rd Pick." Because that's what's going to beat Boston. The Bruins who are apparently an unbeatable juggernaut who never loses.

Why they're just as great as the '77 Habs, '84 Oilers and '97 Red Wings! But we must wait until 2nd Rd Pick is ready! Making the playoffs is wrong! We need more picks dammit!

I want an actual contention window not impatience to make the first round while losing assets for nothing. No idea where the rant about the 2nd round picks or 4 million picks (we have a total of one extra) came from. The rest of your post is laughable at best.

There is no impatience with his take. The Wings had a 25 year run. They won 4 cups in that span. The turmoil started when Detroit tried to "extend the streak" and over-extended on players and gambles. They went head first into over paying for players, and were perfectly fine limping into the playoffs knowing they were going to get shelled. This is different as there are numerous players on the team that have not experienced the playoffs. The experience would do them well.

Going into this season, most Wing fans knew that the playoffs were a stretch, but saw improvement. Obviously certain fans said it's a guarantee, others say the team is still half a decade away. With how the team is playing, the cap situation, prospects, etc. it is evident that this team is closer to the playoffs than the basement. Now is about identifying who helps the next step. Bertuzzi has shown (THROUGH HIS CAREER and not just a season in which he had two injuries blocking shots) that he impacts the game.

In regards to losing assets for nothing... Bert has been out nearly the whole season. For the sake of argument, Vrana is in the same boat. The Wings are still in the thick of the playoff race without them. Now imagine if Bert didn't block that shot, and Vrana didn't have his issues. Those (POTENTIAL) 20-30 goals a piece would be very much appreciated for Detroit. Chances are, the Wings are sitting in the wildcard spot. Why not try it out with them back in the lineup? If not, there is no need to parcel them off for pieces that don't line up with the team goals.

This is the start of the window, not the conclusion that Wings fans had to endure a decade ago.
