I'll admit it -- I just can't get my head around the idea that a guy on a minimum-level contract, who's not a high draft pick on his ELC, is worth a first. David Poile gave him a show-me contract for two years and I think that what's being shown is that Jeannot's one good season was an outlier. Having just traded away your 2023 first, this seems like an awfully big risk for a team whose prospect pool isn't all that deep.

Really like Jeannot but....
That package could get the Leafs a better player

Jeannot is decent at what he does (to me he's a gritty 3W who can play either side), but really last year seems to be something of an outlier so far statistics-wise, so that package seems excessive for him. I think NAS may come to regret not having sold high on him last year.

Just make it the '24 1st and you can have Jeannot 50% retained, keep the rest of the pieces.

Imo if Toronto goes after Jeannot it’s gonna be a swap. For eg. Robertson for Jeannot. Nashville gets the younger player with the higher upside and Toronto gets player in a sophomore slump that’s shown potential in the past.

Why would we ask to retain 50% on a contract when we can send a contract down to create the cap space necessary?

We need to be cap compliant to make this trade

If this is ever offered to nashville David Poile better accept this before Dubas comes off his high.

Was for cap compliancy, no other reason. If you want to send a contract down that's fine too.

He put up 40 points last season and hits like a truck. Leafs never had a player like him in a REALLY long time

If Tampa manages to get him, we're going to wish we didn't play Tampa

He has 14 points this season, we're currently playing this season, not last season.

So you're paying a first, prospect and roster spot for a guy that hits. Go get Hathaway for a fraction of that cost.

He's 25 and showed that he is capable of putting up 40 points

He shot nearly 20% last year on the way to those 40 points. Even if you gave him a generous 12-13% shooting percentage this year, he'd still only be at 8-9 goals (and fwiw, at 13% shooting last year he would've finished with 16 goals and 32 points last year).

He's a solid bottom-6 guy who can score a goal once in a while but he's a 30-35 point guy tops, and he's due a new contract this summer. I think this is an incredible price to pay for a guy like that.

I'm going to assume that when you say "incredible price" you mean "incredibly dumb price", right?

lol was using "incredible" in more of a negative connotation but yes: it's way too much to pay for a guy who tops out as a solid third liner.
