Personally, I think Lafferty and Hathaway are front runners for forwards. Defensively, I think we just need one guy who is more of a veteran and can play a heavy roll and munch some minutes. Someone who can play hard minutes and give Hedman some relief from playing the way Cole, Cernak and Bogo play. Probably more of a 7th guy who can slot in for Perbix if he falters at all. I definitely would prefer to grab someone rather than relying on Fluery or Foote to be the bench options. I honestly would rather call up Raddysh. With Names playing the way he has the last 5 games, Im on the fence about moving him. Yes his cap hit will handcuff us in a way, but I just have a feeling he is going to come through in the playoffs. I trust him defensively and he's the type of player we need more of in the bottom 6, despite his horrid offensive numbers this season. Thats why I think Hathaway and Lafferty should be prime targets. Both can play on the PK and both can play a dirty/heavy roll. I wouldn't mind seeing Maroon ride the pine if it means the guy we bring in could make a difference. It will be tough to replace his physical game and find a guy who is basically immovable when he is protecting the puck, but Maroon for me this season has looked too much like a 1 or 2 trick pony. Unless he's cycling the puck down low or in front of the net, or unless he's receiving a breakout pass, I really dont want him on the ice. His skating is a liability and defensively he has seemed more nonchalant lately. I kinda wanna take at swing and someone who can slot into 4LW or 3RW/3C, but could be an option to alternate with Maroon or Names for that 12th forward. I agree with you that we arent winning a cup without adding some sort of depth, but I dont think it's smart to sacrifice any of our only good pieces going forward, seeing as how we are very thin at every position including draft picks
I hadn't been including Caps players in any of my agm's because I didn't think they were going to be sellers, but I agree with Hathaway. As far as defense, outside of the ubiquitous mentions of Schenn and now the Caps defenders, I had been looking at names like Kulikov, Mayfield, Brown or Stecher from Arizona, and maybe Bortuzzo from St. Louis(McCabe would be a good add as well @2 million aav, but the cost to acquire would be prohibitive). Hedman has not looked good this season defensively, and he's one of the main reasons the pp1 unit has been terrible as of late. Some help for him and the defense in general would be much appreciated, no doubt.
Despite Namestnikov playing better the last handful of games, I'm good with trading him. Unless Brisebois can find a way to move Myers, only moving Foote provides the team with just 1.57 in space. Names has speed and is decent on the pk, but has very little physicality and will get ragdolled come playoff time. If they can move both him and Foote, then they'd have almost 4.1 available. They could then add Lafferty for either 3RW or 4C, a depth dman(one of the many that have been listed, either with or w/out retention, depending on who it is), and then acquire either someone like Bjugstad for 4C or go for someone like Trenin from Nashville for 4LW. It would allow the team to sit/rotate in one of Maroon or Bellemare as you said, and possibly find some better line combinations in the bottom 6.
I wouldn't want to move too many picks and prospects; however, if the team can acquire players with low cap hits and term, or ufa's that can relatively be re-signed in the range that Tampa can afford, I'm down with it. Unless Tampa is going for a big piece, most likely the '25 1st won't come into play, and if Tampa has to move 2-3 pieces between 2nd-5th round picks/B prospects, so be it. Many of these picks/prospects won't be helping the team for 2-3 years at minimum, so unless management is pretty sure they are going to have an impact with the big club by next year or at the latest, the year after, they shouldn't be off limits imo. I wouldn't want to move Howard, Koepke, Goncalves, Huhtanen or Thompson unless it was part of a good deal though.
