Initial Creation Date: Feb. 28, 2023
Published: Feb. 28, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
obviously not going to happen but I love the idea of adding him. Gives you way more grit, adds more depth scoring and ability to mix and match. I think the deal could be edited a bit but I feel the deal is pretty fair. Detroit gets back a young European Swede Dman which Steve Yzerman is going to love as well as a top 6F for them and a soild playmaking winger.

I'd trade Bert to any team but the Leafs. Yzerman and Dubas have never traded so I don't think I have anything to worry about. 😁

We don't need LD with Edvinsson, Wallinder and Johansson on the way.

I think you're heavily underrating Bertuzzi honestly. He is a legit scorer on a down year with a bad team. He can be moved around, he adds so much more skill and he just gives that vibe of a playoff player.

Sandin for Bertuzzi straight up would be interesting to evaluate.

Would depend on how management views each player in their long term plans.

Detroit on the outside looking in...if they don't think they're re-signing Bert...would do very well picking up Sandin...
The leafs...after bringing in McCabe...could be willing to move off of Sandin if they don't see him ascending past the 3rd pairing in the next couple seasons.

I'm not sure I like it, either way, but interesting to discuss

I didnt say I think its going to happen and I think Sandin is a proven solid dman with even more you can get out of him. I would put Sandin at second on that list for dmen you listed.

Detroit sure as hell isn't surrendeing those picks.

Once again not a single piece here we remotely need. Der-Arguchintsev we don't need he's no better than any of our prospects in our pipeline. We don't need or want Kerfoot it sounds like Vancouver has interest in Kerfoot. We just extended both Maatta and Walman and along with either Chiarot or Edvinsson we don't have a spot for Sandin. Plus a garbage 7th round pick in 2024 isn't getting Tyler Bertuzzi.

Yzerman is listening to offers, Doesn't mean he's taking garbage offers to move him.

This trade is so bad for the Leafs... I would debate doing Sandin alone for Bertuzzi... not adding on

And that's not even including Chiarot plus extending Maatta and Walman. LD is the very last thing we need.

TML fans need to realize Detroit is not a landing spot for Sandin.
-Walman is Seider’s partner on the top pair and was extended for several more years.
-Maata has improved Hronek’s game and is around another two years.

Edvinsson/Wallinder/Johansson are on the way and both Ed and WW have higher upsides than Sandin.

Not to mention Chiarot, who will most likely end up as the 3RD next year.

I mean we honestly don't need ld at all, I'd say liljegren would be the piece I'd want for Bert if I had to pick one.

I would put Sandin as our 3rd below Walman and Edvinsson.
If Wallinder performs as expected, then I'd put Sandin at 4th, but the switch from SHL is really hard on many player so.

Regardless, the Red Wings LHD pool is just too large to have any incentive to trade for any middle-4 defensemen.

If Yzerman isn't planning on signing Bert, he could do a hell of a lot worse than turning him into Sandin.

You want to accumulate assets
Ignore the 4th rounders...they are effectively useless

Doesn't matter how deep you are at LD....if you can bring in a young, 22yr old D-man on a good contract it holds way more value than a pending free agent you're not planning on re-signing.

Whether you trade Sandin somewhere else or move another d-man from your depth pool to address other areas...the bottom line is that you're obtaining the more valuable, long term asset.

And that's not to suggest that a better offer might be out there for bertuzzi...or that Yzerman wants to keep Bert and continue to push for the playoffs...or maybe they're already in extension talks....those are obviously all variables...but in a world where they decide they aren't in the playoff hunt and aren't re-signing Bert...Sandin would be a terrific trade for Detroir.

Sandin is not a player that would instantly be a 1st pairing.
Getting a middle-six forward would be much better than getting a (good, I'll admit, good) LHD. This is assuming Yzerman doesn't try to flip Sandin, but yeah.

Sandin can't even get off the third pairing in toronto (even after muzzin got hurt), and they just traded for another LHD. Lotta trust in him from toronto

The Sandin-Lilijgren line was pretty good.
It was a 2nd/3rd pairing, but it was top 5 in xGF%.
But he would most definitely be the 3rd/4th LHD in Detroit come next year.

Going to miss these Bertuzzi trades to Toronto when he's dealt to Los Angeles or something for a 7th.

Fine we probably will, Yzerman is just listening to offers. Doesn't mean we'll move him if we don't get our asking price.
