Why is NSH adding picks to a clear underpay for Saros?

Zona is like $6 mil under the floor right now with 8 players to sign. They're not going to have any issue getting to the floor. This kind of reminds me of the Weber trades last year, where Habs fans though they'd get a solid pick because of the LTIR implications, and instead they ended up getting a dump in Dadonov, who Vegas had been previously willing to send a 2nd round pick to dump.

They're not giving up the better picks to do this. They got a 5th to take Weber in exchange for Mayo who had passed through waivers twice this year. They gave up a 4th to get a solid college player & Bryan Little. They gave up a goalie who had passed through waivers to get a 6th with Voracek.

Just keep him. There's no reason why you wouldn't.

it should be two 4ths going to arizona and two 5ths going to leafs. why would arizona pay to take muzzin who will likely never play again, there are other cap dumps they can take and receive 1st/2nd rounders for it.

Leafs are infinitely better resigning Samsonov than trading for two years of Saros.
The Arizona trade.....makes no sense. If Muzzin plays....he isn't waiving for Arizona. If he remains on LTIR...the Leafs might as well keep him. Yes, a trade to Arizona might makes sense for "cap for Arizona" but they aren't surrendering the better picks to that traded. If Muzzin stays on LTIR, I doubt if any team has "to pay" actual $$$$$. Likely covered by insurance.

How is keeping\re-signing Samsonov (will cost AT LEAST $3m/yr) better than 2 years of Saros?

Muzzin's NTC expires after this current season.

And fine - maybe the Leafs get 1 4th instead of 2 for Muzzin and the 2x 5ths. So be it. Muzzin is not ever going to play again - so if the Leafs do NOT get at least a slight pick(s) upgrade - no need for them to do it - just leave Muzzin on LTIR and no problem. But if an upgrade in pick(s) can be done (regardless of how slight an upgrade), the Leafs should 100000% do it AFTER the $2m signing bonus is paid out.

Knies is though?

Voit = top 2 scorer in OHL all year long

Minten = currently 55th in WHL scoring - but that is playing behind teammates Stankoven and Bankier on the Blazer's depth chart. Imagine what he will do next year when those 2 guys have moved on to the NHL?

Muzzin's NTC ends but he has M NTC with a 10 no team trade list. You can be sure Arizona is on his no trade list. Oh, I agree, if the Leafs could get something outta Arizona...great but nothing in for Arizona. Actually Arizona got McBain for taking on Little's LTIR.

Gee the Leafs are much better signing Samsonov to a 4m contract, and then trading for 5m Saros.

I can see Voit and Minten getting looks but they aren’t full time guys yet. Maybe an off-season changes that but maybe.

Muzzin isn’t going anywhere. Only thing maybe is if they convince the team to buy him out (which I doubt happens) then Leafs can resign him on a 2 way in case he’s not fully done.

I’d prefer Saros at 5 mill then Sammy at 4. No offence to Sammy cause I’ve liked him for years now and wanted him but Saros is on another level and if it’s just 1 mill difference I’m taking Saros

Honestly I’d say my biggest issue with all of this is you paying Kampf 2M a year for 2 years and then waiving him…

Knies seem to be the most ready of them, but still doesn't mean he will make the lineup right out of the gate.

Minten is 18 yo, what's the rush? Let him developp, he is no Mcdavid or Matthews, next year he should be getting good minutes in the WHL.

Voit is simply not there yet. At his frame, he needs to developp further more, on a third line in the nhl, points don't matter, you play a role that clearly doesn't suit Voit playstyle.

You ever heard of Rory Kerins? also 2nd point leader last year in the ohl at 20yo. This year, spent the entire season in the ECHL. played 6 ahl points with 2 points. The jump is huge between OHL and NHL, and the Leafs are contending, not rebuilding. THerefore, they developp their players in the minors.

Logic, my friend. Prospect hugging is the leading cause of hockey related depression. We overhype the heck out of guys because TSN, Sportsnet, or a blog tells us about how amazing they are. We get analysis about how "Prospect McProspecty" was the steal of the 5th round because he was 5'9'' but scores in the Q.

Let. Them. Develop.
