Addison for Yager

Created by: gopherit
Team: 2023-24 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 20, 2023
Published: Mar. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In essence, package Addison with our 2023 1st to move up in the draft and acquire Brayden Yager, assuming he falls to (a) early-to-mid teens and (b) a team willing to trade back & are interested in Addison.

2023 NHL Draft:
1(BUF). Brayden Yager, C - 6' center with killer shot, high motor, playmaker, physical, and great speed. Our future 1C.
2(PHI). Kasper Halttunen, RW - 6'3" right winger, unlikely to drop to this pick though
2(MIN). Lenni Hämeenaho, LW/C/RW - 6' F that gives me Aho (CAR) vibes, plus I like his name

Detroit needs RH Centers, What makes you think that Detroit doesn't take Yager ahead of Buffalo?

That StevieY does StevieY things and looks the other way. To be clear, I don't think Yager will fall to a team that is willing to trade back with us. I just hope it does. Let a man dream! tears of joy

I guarantee Buffalo doesn't take that. And I say that as a Wild fan.

He's fine. Especially considering he missed a whole year of crucial development due to Myocarditis.

He's doing great in the AHL right now. There's nothing wrong with letting him overbake down there where he's getting top ice time and being *the guy*.

But there's a small contingent of Wild fans who are irrationally ready to give up on him just because he's not already playing for the Wild in a top six role or hate the fact he's under 6'0" tall.

To be clear, I haven't given up on Rossi. In fact, I assume he'll center our top line moving forward. Whenever I talk about needing a "1C", what I actually mean is that we need another 1C to drive our 2nd line. Since I believe you need to have 2 first line quality centers in order to be considered a true cup contender. I also think JEEK is best suited on the 3rd line & special teams. I believe Khusnutdinov will be the next Granlund; which by itself is great but becomes problematic when you begin to factor in the lack of goal scorers we have on the roster and in our system. Kaprizov & Boldy are the only two I consider to be top goal scorers. Yurov, Beckman, Walker, Öhgren (maybe), and others I consider to be decent goal scorers but not in a game breaking way.

Ideally, we'd have a center with top line talent (like Boldy) to drive our 2nd line. Even better is if the center is a natural goal scorer (to take pressure off Boldy), fast (since Boldy seems to do well with faster players), and physical (again to draw some physicality away from Boldy).

Care to elaborate? Would dropping the 2nd round pick swap help? IDK how far off I am. What I do know is that they have an abundance of young centers but lack depth at RHD. Addison would fill that need immediately.

They're doing this the right way.

Nothing drove me crazy more than when so many wild fans said last year that Rossi would be the immediate solution to the top 6 center gap. While I agree he is for the long term, people wanted too much, too soon, and some still do.

Still think y'all need a stopgap top 6 C tho for another year.

Buffalo already has Dahlin and Power as their primary offensive Dmen. I'd assume Addisons strength is on the PP given most of his points have come in that regard, and he averages over 3 1/2 minutes of PP time a game. That's just not a need for the Sabres, and he's not going onto the PP over Dahlin or Power so he becomes another offense first Dman on a roster that needs Defensively sound Dmen right now.

So we move back like 10 spots in round 1 and 25ish spots in round 2 for.... Addison. Addison is not a defensively stout RHD, which is what we need. No point in Sabres moving down unless it fills a need. I would consider moving our 1st and our 2nd for Faber, your 1st and your 2nd

What’s wrong with Addison pairing with one of those 2 on the 1st or 2nd PP unit?

They run 1 Dman and 4 forwards on their PP, as do most teams now. They also need a more responsible defender to partner with Power.
