Ya why would the habs remotely consider that. Lafreniere cant hit a .5 ppg in year 3 still. The habs 1st round draft pick has the same career nhl ppg from the 2020 draft......and hes a defenceman....who wasnt supposed to be a massive point proucer at the NHL level.

There is no trade for Lafrenierre that works for both parties because based on his play he is worth maybe a late 1st as he is currently producing like a bottom 6 forward and he doesnt possess any augmenting features (defensive dominance, faceoff ability, fighting, penalty killing) to up his value. He is a player who is largely valued based on the points he can or cannot produce.

For the Rangers they cant afford to take that deal. They want the perception of him to be the value.

The FLA 1st in '23 would probably be more than enough for Laffy. The Habs are in no way giving up Roy either (imo, he has more potential than Laffy, and is younger). Where does PLD even fit into the Rangers' Top 6? The Rangers already have a 1C and 2C in Zibanejad and Trocheck and I don't think that PLD plays wing. NYR is also kind of overpaying for PLD.

NYR decline... not only will they not be able to afford the extension PLD is going to want, they also just resigned Chytil. To have Zib, Trocheck, Chytil and PLD is overkill at center. You would have to remove Lafreniere and add one of Chytil or Trocheck for this to be worth it for NYR.

NYR also aren't giving up Lafreniere unless it's an absolutely INSANE overpay. He's improved significantly each year.
