1.
WPG
  1. Meier, Timo [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Love Timo and think he will ultimately be fine in NJ. But it’s been underwhelming so far. As a team, Devils have progressively gotten worse over the last month. In the 61 games without Timo, NJD had +52 goal differential. In the 16 games since he has arrived, NJD is -2.

Best thing in long term may have been to save our ammo for a legit starter. Without one, we will not be a contender.

(Am singling out Hellebuyck here since he just owned us tonight).
2.
NJD
WPG
  1. Blackwood, Mackenzie [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Will take a late pick if anyone offers. But likely just let him walk.

Just don't think there was any on the market at the time. Maybe this offseason there might be a few options.

It's possible if the Jets do go into rebuild that Hellebuyck may become available. That would be one helluva pickup for Jersey. Obviously not for Meier though.

This is the most reactionary nonsense I've ever seen. Yes, we need a goalie, but I'd sooner walk on hot coals than trade Timo for one. Don't forget 1) that Helle and Sorokin are UFAs after next year, and 2) that Schmid has been rated very highly this year.

Assuming Hellebuyck doesn't plan on walking in FA - Winnipeg declines.

don't see jersey having the money to sign hellebuyck or sorokin (both will i imagine be looking for 8x8mil) but i also think the roster will be good enough that they'll be able to get by with a goalie who's just good enough like colorado has done

Jets probably have to go rebuild if scheifele and helly decide to test free agency, so probably a youthful package back over anything else or possibly a goalie from the devils included.

This is so reactionary to one of the only bad losses this team has had, towards the end of an 82 game season.n

We’d definitely have enough money to sign either, it just might take losing someone like Mercer or finding a way to move the Palat contract. Would be infinitely easier if we just didn’t have Palat to begin with.

No, there weren’t any worthwhile goalies in the market at deadline. But the point was more about saving our ammo (prospects and picks) for a goaltender in off-season, then picked up a winger.

Nothing reactionary at all here

1. I like Timo, but he has been a little underwhelming and has clearly disrupted team chemistry (which hopefully time can solve). So far, he has not made the team better for 2022-23. I hope as much as anyone he will for playoffs and future years.

2. Goaltending was, is, and will be the biggest impediment to NJD becoming a contender. I have been saying for a year-and-a-half. It was my preference to sit out deadline, make a move for goaltending over the summer. I love Schmid. But he is a looong way to guy like Hellebuyck (I have strong preference for goalies that can start 60 games a year).

3. It was not just one bad game. Since the back-to-back games vs TB, we are 4-7 (22nd in the league). And the last few games, they have looked a lot like the 2021-22 Devils. Giving up very soft goals in net. Team looking defeated and tired.

We could find the money, have a space to work with. It probably makes extending Graves, Severson or Tatar a little harder…but wouldn’t put Mercer at risk.

Wouldn’t even consider this. And Timo arguably has been our best forward over the past few games

That’s an observation.

I haven’t change my tune for years on this matter. Ask any devils fans. I have often been more in favor or adding a #1 goalie and less in favor of spending on a winger. My position hasn’t changed.

Exactly. This incessant need to complain about the goaltending is so tiresome. Avs won with Kuemper, Pens won with Murray, and Chicago won with Niemi and Crawford. All those players are good not elite goalies.

But Blackwood, Vanecek are also nowhere near as good as those guys.

We can get by with good/decent goaltending. We have one good back-up and one hot mess back-up. We won’t make it through 1st round if they play like they have been in recent months.
