Backlund just turned 34. Detroit declines. He's still producing points but we're rebuilding here. Not building a nursing home. Too many CFACGM posters want the Red Wings to be Shady Acres Del Boca Vista Phase 3 Retirement Home.

Come on everybody! It's time for Shuffleboard!

Not enough for Toffoli, Backlund should go to an immediate contender, and I think you can get a bit more on Tanev

Easy no thanks from the Rangers. They can sign Kane or Tarsenko if they want and give up nothing, so no interest in Toffoli.

Not out of the realm of possibility, we’d rather do that than give up our first in a deep draft for a 30 year old.

What are you talking about? Did Kane force his way to the Rangers because he wanted to play in NYC? YES Is he a UFA next year? YES Do you know how much he wants to sign with the Rangers? NO
Is Tarasenko a UFA next season? YES. Do you know how much he wants to sign with the Rangers? NO
Do you know what direction Drury goes with the team after the playoffs? Again...NO.

So there is no reason Kane or Tarasenko can't end up staying in NYC, so maybe open your eyes and mind......LOL

they probably arent signing for 2.5 mil at max for one year when they can get a 2-3 year deal for 5.5 mil or more just to stay with one contending team. they could, but its unlikely

If he was willing to extend with Buffalo I'd absolutely do that. Tanev is one of the better shutdown D in the league, and he plays a style that he should be able to maintain past his prime. He doesn't rely on speed or athleticism, he's a smart player that is almost always in good position to defend. Buffalo could use a guy like him not just for his defensive ability, but also to impart that knowledge on the younger guys. He also went to RIT so he's familiar with western NY.

I know and like his play but believe KA not in for long term players to bond with team

Kane told Chicago's GM it was the Rangers or nothing, so he seems a bit motivated to play at MSG, so who knows what he is willing to take in salary to play for the Rangers? The point is, the Rangers would explore that option well before even considering Toffoli who has just 1 year left on his present deal and then would want a raise. Toffoli is a non-starter for the Rangers.
