Getting a goalie

Created by: Cory
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 18, 2023
Published: Apr. 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't know anything about Ottawa. Watched a few games this year and like Buffalo look like a solid up and coming team. The one thing i noticed was goaltending lost them many of games. Sogaard will be good but still needs some time.

Not the route Van is going. Offer up this to Anaheim for Gibson and Henrique.

I’m sure the Canucks would take that if they could flip Debrincat for futures, but it seems like they want to make the playoffs next season, and Demko will need to stay for that to happen

I don't think Ottawa declines that. Shouldn't all trades be lateral moves that help out positions? Really wouldn't be good if teams steal players for nothing.

Value isn’t the issue but the Canucks aren’t trading Demko. If they did then it would be for futures, not another winger

As a Canucks fan I see what you mean but I think if we wanted to make the playoffs debrinket could help he’s a good top 6 elite forward that can pair well with petterson and kuzmenko and branstrom can help on the defensive end especially if an oel buyout comes and there is a lot of good goalies coming up this season as a ufa

As a Sens and Canucks fan, I think you managed to make my jaw drop twice haha.

I get where you're coming from with this trade, but only in theory. VAN has Boeser who is a worse DeBrincat, but is eating a large cap chunk. If we assume they move on from Boeser then it makes more sense that they'd be interested in DeBrincat. However, I don't think they'd also move on from Garland. His style of play is exactly what Tocchet likes and Garland improved considerably in the second half as a result. I think they'd want to move Beauvillier instead, and as an Ottawa fan I'm not too upset about swapping Garland and Beauvillier if we remove the first.

BUT Demko just completely shuts VAN down. Demko is ELITE and his play once he returned from injury has completely turned VAN off from trading him. There are good goalies that can be got in FA and, honestly, Ian Clarke can transform a goalie into a wall but I think that only goes so far. It would make more sense for VAN to keep Demko and bring in a legit back up option behind him. I think VAN would target Pinto from OTT if we really pushed to get Demko. VAN needs a 2C to move Miller to wing.

OTT declines, G are worth a fraction of what other positions are worth, so Cat for Demko would already be a overpay by OTT, Garland is a 3rd liner

Ottawa can sign a UFA goalie instead of Demko. Garland isn't worth his contract or barely is.
Sens should sign a goalie, keep Brannestrom, the first round picks, keep or trade DeBrincat., rather than make that trade.
