Have a question.

Why do the Devils trade Blackwood and Sharangovich for Pettersson just to let Graves walk and sign for a contract that’s only 1m annually more?

They don't, not because they sign Graves, but because they have Siegenthaler, Hughes, Bahl, and Smith, and they don't need another left handed defenseman.

Canucks already have too many expensive wingers and wouldn't trade a 2024 1st for another one

The Canes don’t consider that. Just forgetting about Guentzel’s age and contract situation for 1 moment, the Canes aren’t going to move Jarvis. He wasn’t one the table for Meier, who is better than Guentzel, so he won’t be on the table for Guentzel. Going back to his contract situation, he will be, what, 30-31 when his new deal kicks in, and he is going to be demanding 9+mil. Yeah, Canes pass.

Gonna need to lower several of those asks, if not also find a different team to move certain players.

Why would the Canes do this for one year of Jake.

Pens best bet is to retain half of Jake at the deadline and trade him to a contender for a 1st + B prospect.

Canucks don't need Rakell, and definitely not for a 1st round pick and Podkolzin

Guentzel is 28. Also Meier has 472 GP 163 G 167 A 330 P Guentzel has 453 GP 197 G 217 A 414 P. In the playoffs Guentzel has 58 GP, 34 G 24 A 58 P. Meier is not better than Guentzel and how does he do in the playoffs? Answer: 34 GP 7 G 13 A 20 P. Guentzel is his best in the playoffs. Ask the Devils how Meier's doing when the pressure's on.

Would have to consider it. We will need to add one dman if they both leave.

Siegs - Hamilton
Bahl - Marino
Pettersson - Hughes

Vs…

Siegs - Hamilton
Hughes - Marino
Bahl - Walsh

Rakell ain’t worth all that. He also is not at peak value anymore. 5 shmill for 5 years for a 30 yr old, 60 point winger. Nah

Disagree. Bahl is more than adequate on the third pair given that he looked great on the first pair with Dougie

Meier has be alright…still early.

But big difference is we got Meier for 1.5+ years (2+ playoff rounds), whereas Guentzel would be for 1-year. So the return would likely be less. Without an extension, comps may be Giroux, Horvat, etc (1st and top 50-100 prospect)

Hopefully he slides another year and pushes first RFA period back another season. But the way he has been playing in 2023, he is definitely ready. Walsh is too.

If we started next season with…

Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Hughes - Marino
Bahl - Walsh
Smith

…I think it would be okay, but we gotta add one more dman into mix even if lower in lineup. I would hope the could ease the rookies in, one at a time. I also think, we could end up one injury away from trouble.

Canucks easily decline. 2024 1st plus Podkolzin is an insane price for Rakell. That's a 1st that has a chance to be top 10 plus a prospect taken in the 1st round. I wouldn't even give up one of those pieces for Rakell, the last thing the Canucks need is another expensive winger.

Whoever offers the highest draft pick. I can't imagine it being higher than a 3rd.
