Sure right, Bratt $8,000,000 DeBrincat and Meier $8,500,000 per at the very least probably closer to $9,000,000 per each. Yeah good luck fitting that under the cap.

Debrincat trade doesn't make sense unless one of Bratt of Meier is going the other way. Even then I think the Devils would prefer to just extend Bratt and Meier over Debrincat coming off a down season unless there's additional assets going to the Devils.

Holtz hasn't looked as promising as I thought he'd be.

At tbe draft, I was torn between Raymond and Holtz for Detroit. Holtz was a shooter who played center at tbe time. What the heck is happening with him? Doesn't have to be lights out, but he is looking like a bad choice, maybe?

It's probably Holtz followed me on Instagram once but then stopped, while Raymond never followed me on Instagram /s.

Actually we can. If we give Bratt, Cat, and Meier an average of 8.5 that leaves us 10m the following summer for Mercer, Schmid, and a 7D.

Same player who was point per game in the AHL at 19. He just couldn't crack the lineup and got mismanaged by Ruff. He never got a shot in the top six.

Bratt, DeBrincat and Meier…sheesh. Fitzy would be busy this summer.

But there is a valid thought that this may be a good year to lock up RFAs long-term. If we are a few months away from balancing the escrow, and changes to CBA are not expected, we will see cap ceiling once again pegged to league revenues, so we could see a couple big jumps in upper limit between 2024-2026. Signing RFAs now (when apportioned as % of a 83.5m cap) could create some value deals long-term.

Short version is …he will be fine

Long version is…was hard to develop him on the fly this year. We never expected to win as much as we did, so kept him with NHL squad thinking, “we’ll fall back to earth soon and go back to testing out the kids”. But we never did. (Reilly Walsh kind of stood in same bucket). Tatar, Haula, and everyone else were playing well for most of the year, so just got harder to get him into lineup. He does have to work on some things…defensively so he can stay in lineup…and finding ways to adapt his feet-standing-still-shot (his bread and butter) to a fast offense build on possession and transition. Goal scorers usually grow production in bunches…so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him jump his output in big step changes. He has two more years of his ELC left and a coach who runs our offense (and could be head coach next year) who loves him. So NJD has little reason to move him. I’d give him a ‘strong buy’ rating over long-term.

Never got in top-six. But we did see him in pre-season in top-6 and he looked great. And he had a few games on PP1 where he looked very dangerous. So to me, he has passed enough of the eyeball test to be optimistic.

Steep price. We'd also then need to dump palat.

I like the NJ return , but I get the NJ fans concerns saying there will be jam of top 6 high paid players to deal with. If Holtz did not excel playing on that line then he will never meet his potential. Varlamov 2 years max , still feeling queasy re: 35 year old goalies.
