Playoff time baby

Created by: PodGoalzin99
Team: 2023-24 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: May 7, 2023
Published: May 7, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Signing Kessel and resigning Okposo for flexible vet forwards. Brossoit signed to be 1B to Levi so he’s not thrown into it too much and gives him time to develop. RD is buffalos weakest spot and adding demelo from WPG,who should theoretically be selling, gives them a really good shutdown D. DeBrincat is the big splash with OTT apparently looking to move him. Olofsson and Jokiharju needs new scenery, UPL lost his job to Levi and Ottawa is in desperate need of goaltending, and I think Ottawa getting a 1st back similar to what they gave up for him last year is decent value.

as hilarious as it would be to get Debrincat for basically a 1st and a bunch of cap dumps, Im guessing the Sens just double down or trade him out of the division. Virtually zero chance the Sabres add any forwards for next year.

Didn’t even think about the fact that they’re in the same division lol

Olofsson had more goals than DeBrincat this year lol, he's a solid middle six scoring winger, the perfect guy we'd need if Debrincat left.

UPL still has potential, idk on Jokiharju but we can use a depth defenceman and a 13th overall pick is great.

If that is what DeBrincat will sign for, he's staying in Ottawa.

Ottawa declines unless Buffalo wins the lottery tomorrow.

Yeah if the Sens trade Debrincat to a team in the same Division like Detroit or Buff the price would significantly increase compared to a team in the west.

Also if the Sens trade debrincat its to make cap space for depth and a true #1 goalie.

Personally if the Sens trade debrincat away Id like them to get Bertuzzi and Ullmark. Although I believe the price would be very high for both of those players.

Sabres have no interest in paying anything for to acquire DeBrincat when they can spend that cap wisely to get sign a UFA this year or next.
If DeBrincat is worth all that.......Leafs Nylander should get just as much in a trade. The two players are in exactly the same situation.
Sorry Sens fans, you overpaid for DeBrincat just to finish out of playoffs, and there is no way to recoup those losses.

I would prefer signing Bertuzzi to a 6m(ish) contract if we trade debrincat. also I wouldn't trade debrincat to a division rival unless we get a HUGE return.

Have you considered why so many Sabres fans are so hot to get rid of a guy who scored more goals than Debrincat?

I'm sure the Jets would trade DeMelo for that if they decide to do a major overhaul(though it doesn't sound like the dumb ****s are going to do that.. 🙄) but it'll have to be a 2nd rounder in the 2023 or 2024 draft, not waiting till 2025 expect when the Jets have no 2nd in the next two drafts.

"RD is buffalos weakest spot"

LOL. Then you go and trade away one of our best RDs. Get Demelo sure, but don't trade away Joker. We have zero need for Cat.

DeBrincat was a -31 with a 42.0GF%
Olofsson was a -23 with a 39.53

They are very similar players. I'll keep the cheaper Olofsson and everything else thrown in this trade.

And if the threadstarter really wants Cat, at $7.5mm an offersheet would give OTT a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, which is MUCH, MUCH cheaper than the 5 pieces that were included here.

He's not bad. He's a young cost-controlled RD with room to improve. You need 10 D-men. There's no need to ship him off.

Buffalo doesn't do that 1st trade, but I would do the 2nd one. That way you could drop Joker to 3rd pair and let him gain some consistency.

There are four major reasons why Buffalo fans envision him being traded, Savoie, Kulich, Östlund and Rosén.
They are all 6 or 7 years younger and nearly $4,000,000 less expensive.
DeBrincat would not be a significant upgrade over Olofsson.
Jokiharju is too young to judge, but he has played over 20 min/gm the last two years playing about 2 min/gm on the PK.
Most NHL defensemen do not enter the NHL until 23 yo, he has 5 seasons at that age.

I will admit I wanted Cat last year when Ottawa got him, but I wouldn’t do that know. Bet Ottawa doest get a 3rd of what they think. People know he is signing there.
