Barlow isn't dropping far enough for the Florida pick and Toronto isn't making a trade to send any of their stars to MTL

If Leafs think either Mesar or Struble can become good NHLers, the Leafs make the deal. Not sure why Montreal does. Likely still finish out the playoffs , and Nylander is a UFA.

Michkov is not able to leave the KHL until the 26-27 season. He's in the middle of a 5 year contract with SKA St. Petersburg.

I wouldn't trade for Nylander (he is great and his contract is fair) because Roy is likely going to be able to fill that role for cheaper and longer-term

HABS will probably be able to get him out sooner like they did with Romanov. HABS have very good relations with the Hockey Federation in Russia.

Not exactly true, Michkov is signed to a KHL contract until then, however he can buyout his contract at any point. The catch is though the NHL teams are not allowed to assist in that.

I would agree. I see Joshua Roy being a solid 3rd liner capable to scoring 20 goals with a cap of 50 points. Far from being Nylander

Is the offer for Nylander viable.

Im bent on the Leaf retooling. Trades should be made, if not in pre season at TDL. Matthew/Nylander/Brodie will all be UFAs. And will the Leafs can replace these player with the cap they will have but not having these players resigned, maybe (and I know this is subjective) the Leafs should be sellers and get some assets back. Having Matthews and Nylander paid 2m more each doesn't make the Leafs better.
Leafs have poor prospect poor, and have traded away so many picks in the future. Cost efficient ELC are almost always needed for successful teams

The perpetual rebuild eh? Let's not pay great players good money when we can sell them all for pennies on the dollar so we can afford middle 6 players who make twice as much as they should.

Sorry you guys are confused, I didn't mean he was going to be an 80 point player like Nylander, I meant he would fill the 2nd line wing role cheaper and longer. I agree he tops out at 50-60 points but we don't want to be paying a 2RW 8+ mil a year either, especially not one who doesn't really fit our timeline as well.

Don't no why you would the perpetual rebuild. I would say teams that don't spend to cap might be pertual rebuilding . Let's says the Leafs don't trade any of any of their star UFAs next season because they are FREE agents who can sign anywhere, the Leafs wouldn't be rebuilding, if they use that cap space to sign other players. Why is so many fans think teams just HAVE to sign their own UFAs at any cost, or a UFA HAS to sign with the team that drafted him.

So let them go so we can sign other players. That's your solution? Who?

Whoa, you really don't understand the concept of UFA. "Let them go"......it's really not the Leafs choice, unless the Leafs are so determined to pay most of any team to retain those players.
If a team feels they don't want to commit long term to their UFAs, they have to right to sign other UFAs, or ensure their RFAs get paid and are retained. But even at that the team doesn't have all the cap in one year, they can wait for the following season. My solution is not to give bad contracts to any player. l do know that probably at the peak of their careers....many of their Leafs have won one playoff round. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same results.

I don't see roy being a legit top 6 player, and certainly not anytime soon
