Anaheim declines. It's the OTHER SoCal team that is desperate for LhDs and would trade an A forward prospect for one.

Murphy isn't worth that to the sabres. Chicago fans need to stop.

I'd give Shalunov's rights away if that meant he'd play in the NHL. Imagine him playing this Krill.

Mitchell is a RHD but fair enough if he is not of interest.

Why would Compher want to play the rest of his prime with a team that's in the early stages of a rebuild? They probably won't be competitive until the end of his contract.

We're too light on scoring wingers to give up on Perrault at this time, he might be a late bloomer.

Even more reason for the Kings to decline. With Doughty, Roy, Durzi, Clarke and Spence, plus holdover Walker, we have more than enough RhDs. And Anaheim isn't ready to trade Perreault just yet.

Buddy, I think you need to go refresh that coffee, the trade (currently) is to the Ducks.

It's the occupational hazard of favoring two teams -- I often can't remember what cap I'm wearing.

He is from Chicago. Bedard is there from day 1 of his contract. They likely add another top 5 pick next draft and have plenty of cap space to deep dive into adding pieces. Hawks had 3 first round picks last Summer, will have 2 this and next and likely add more by taking bad contracts and consolidating the boatloads of 2nds they have. The Hawk prospect pool is pretty robust already and about to get an upgrade (without even considering Bedard in that). While picks generally take 2-3 years to get to the NHL (sometimes longer sometimes less), the Hawk have been stockpiling assets and should have a steady flow each year of impact guys starting this season with Reichel and excellerating with 2-3 per year. I think the rebuild goes suck this season and grab a top 5 pick, add a couple pieces in UFA and be significantly improved the following season but still miss the playoffs, and in the 3rd year of Compher's deal he is on a perennial playoff team with waves of high end kids coming each year as this Summers (non Bedard) picks start arriving.

It still takes time for those prospects to develop. It's never linear, as each prospect will have different timelines. Take a look at all of the other scorched earth rebuilds that have occurred over the past 20 years. Most of those teams took 5+ years to be competitive, some had an ample amount of highly drafted prospects already in their systems before the wheels fell off. To expect that team as they stand right now to be a playoff team in 3 years is more than a little optimistic. It takes more than just having a bunch of good prospects, those prospects have to actually perform at the NHL level, and not all of them will. Some will underwhelm, some will take a lot longer to develop, some might even bust.

Obviously a lot boils down to your scouting department and making many/most of the picks payoff. I may be overly confident in the Hawks scouting, But I feel they have made some good picks in recent draft and I am optomistic about things going forward. Bedard is a level of pick that is hard to screw up and one many other scrotched earth teams did not have the luxary of building around. I'm sort of looking at NJ and Hughes. They certainly had some pieces before drafting him in the pipeline, but nothing all that spectacular. Add a few UFA's cause you have the cap, make a few good trades and no reason you can;t be a playoff team in year 3 or 4 of Bedard. You are absolutley correct that prospect development is not linear where you can put a set time line on a calander and there will certainly be busts. Good news for the Hawks is they drafted 8 in the top 100 picks last season, currently have 9 in the top 100 this draft, and 11 in the next 2 drafts and will surely be adding more by taking bad cap and trading off other players. There is a LOT of room for busts, and guys taking longer to develop than ideal and still having a really good team before you even get into have cap space to buy UFA's (and Summer of '24 looks like it could be a really good year at this point).

Im less keen to move Rosen than I once was. We can acquire a better RHD than Murphy with the abundance of prospects we will have in the pipeline post-draft
