I could be talked into wanting the Devils to take Gibson on at 50% + Henrique while not giving up more than the assets you suggest.
Problem is that the Ducks would never go for retaining that much on Gibson for that long.
Better to just not do the trade and keep Vanecek to play tandem with Schmid, Vanecek is about as good as Gibson is nowadays anyway.

laugh That offer isn't getting John Gibson at 50% retained for the next 4 years. The offer has to be far better than this and it's not even close.

Bratt will get close to $8,000,000 per and Meier close to $8,500,000 per neither are signing that cheaply.

What a joke.

Anaheim counters with Sam Carrick, Olle Eriksson Ek , our 2023 third and 2025 third for John Marino.

I think we would take it, if offered. Not a slam dunk considering how well Vanecek played this year, but Gibson and Henrique would both be upgrades.

(Doubt Ducks like it though)

From the reaction of Ducks fans in the replies I can definitely infer as such. Although I feel as if Gibson is greatly overvalued by the team and its fans alike.

Gibson is undervalued by rest of league. He is a workhorse for a team that hasn’t been good. Fans worry too much about save %. Any team would take him at $3.2m. Devils included.

What is with the thinking the Devils should go after 30 yr old goalies with term well into their 30s?

The intention behind a trade such as the one I simulated above is to rapidly leverage the beginning of an already accelerated contention window with a near elite goaltender at reduced price alongside the complete solidification of the forward core with Henrique. If New Jersey can field a team such as the one above, they may have an opportunity to be among the best in the NHL (with a finish perhaps at or higher than last season). Some issues may lie in the long-term scope of the Gibson contract, but the cap hit is not large enough to paralyze the Devils team-building wise.

Don' think you should have pressed the submit button when he you're over the cap by 2m and have a 20 man roster.

Has Gibson really been elite? He's been sub-.905 for four seasons in a row. I know the Ducks are awful, but is he getting better than that after 30?
