It's not because of the value, which I think is tilted towards the Habs, but I would prefer the Habs draft rather than trade for Laf.

With Dubois, Caufield, Suzuki, Dach, Slaf... We don't need another star forward, we need a defenseman!

Habs need star power more than depth... I don't think it's smart to trade 5 for 9 & 17, even if valuation is fair

I think that's a pretty fair trade with the Red Wings.

It would just depend on who is there at 5 and if the Red Wings & Steve think the quality beats out the quantity of a highish and middle 1st round pick in what is a pretty deep draft.

I suppose if smith goes and it's michkov left if they're that scared to draft him Montreal could move the pick but I think they take him.

That makes sense for the Habs. For the Rangers, the need is top 6 RW not D, so if Laffy is moved it should be to fill the hole at RW.

For what it's worth, and I'm not sure how seriously to take these things when large numbers of picks are involved, the 2022 draft pick value chart I have says that #9 + #17 is exactly equivalent to Montreal's first, second, third and fourth-round picks in 2023. The one from 2018 says Montreal's first three picks.

I actually think this is pretty close to fair. Dvorak is frankly a cap dump, and I'm happy that Habs fans are starting to realize this. The 9OA for Dubois is pretty much fair I think. I think that I would take this deal were I Chevy.

You set the market on dach at 13+ a third. Laffy is twice as productive with more pedigree, meaning he costs more, not less

It is *close* to fair, but it is still clearly not quite there. Why would the Jets take a cap dump for Dubois if they aren't rebuilding? Montreal doesn't immediately need the cap space, and as I said there are other teams in the league. 9th oa plus a real asset, not a liability. Or if Montreal retains some salary I guess I could see it happening. I just don't see the Jets seeing any value in an overpaid 3rd line winger.

I would rather return one high quality asset for Dubois rather than a collection of assets. 9OA is about as good as you're going to get for him, i think, and if we have to take back Dvorak then I don't care about eating some salary for a few years at a position where we lack depth.
