Trading with win-now teams that follow a TB model

Created by: KentMcNally
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 4, 2023
Published: Jun. 4, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think some teams could start following the Lightning model of trying to win now (for various reasons described below) and placing lesser value on picks that will probably not have much of an impact for 3 to 5 years
Calgary- new GM wants to maximize Huberdeau’s, Kadri’s and Weegar’s value (all signed long term( and help convince Lindholm to stick around
Pittsburgh- make another playoff run for Geno and Sid’s sake and dropping bad cap space to help add better supporting cast players
Rangers- certainly seem to be in win now mode
Colorado- in win now mode and still have a decent amount of high quality youth, so trading picks is not the end of the world

I know these are too many moves, but it would be fun (from the Habs perspective)

1) Mangiapane >> Anderson 2) Conroy just talked about the importance of building through the draft. Don’t think he is trading away picks to win now with a team that missed the playoffs.

Why the would the Flames take an older and lesser player, then also trade down in the first round to gain 2nds in lesser drafts? All to gain what? 2m in cap space?

Hard pass.

Edit: Also that Panarin deal, LMFAO. Homie must be starving because they're trying to steal bread from everywhere.

Funny how you nab a 1st with Panarin like he's a dump, then flip him for Morrow & Suzuki.

Everyone with the slight exception of Colorado hangs up immediately and blocks the number for wasting their time.

not paying a first to add 5 million in cap where players of better value can be found in free agency.

Avs are good on left handed defenseman and wouldn’t want a 3rd line center for a first which can be used as an asset to actually trade for a legitimate 2C.

Avs aren't going to make a dumb trade like the Bolts did with Jeannot. They need impact players coming back in any trade of major assets, not role players.

Colorado is the only close one. Every other team laughs (I would love getting Mangiapane tho)
