The general consensus is that trade goes down minus Muzzin. Adding Muzzin costs extra.

Yes but I think Toronto should also trade away Muzzin, as this could potentially be the last year with Matthews/Nylander. Maximize your chance to win. Unless they don’t trade him and save that cap space for the trade deadline. But as they have no draft picks the next 3 years, I added him to this trade

LoL "Toronto offloads $10m and moves back about 20 spots in the draft" and that is exactly why Chicago wouldn't do this

I think that could be done with swapping the 2nd the Hawks trade for Dallas' 3rd.

Maybe if you asked for NOTHING in return from Chicago for a $10mm dump, they'd think about it. IDK even then, though...

Chicago took Mrazek, a 6.8m dump, and Toronto moved back 12 spots in the draft. So it’s not that bad, as Muzzin only counts towards the cap for the first game, then goes to LTIR and Chicago gets the cap space for the rest of the year

That is probably more likely than the 2nd, but wouldn’t surprise me if it was only a 2nd

What is the dollar value of #28 OA in this draft? $10mm, straight up? $10mm, plus Dallas' 3rd? I honestly don't know and it's not my money I'd be shelling out...

Well, I guess that's true. The Hawks wouldn't be bumping up against the cap so could do this (I assume). How much in actual cash would the Hawks be ponying up? Question for ownership, I suppose. If they also trade for Seabrook, that could impact this, too.

The Hawks didn't have an NHL goalie this time last year, they needed a warm body to put in net. That isn't the case now, in fact they have 4 guys between the NHL and AHL. If they take on Murray, they they have to dump him or Mrazek on someone else or buy one of them out. The price goes up because of that.

Apples and Oranges. Last year, Hawks had one goalie under contract. They needed a veteran goalie. And they had a brand new GM running his first ever draft who was looking to make as big a splash as possible to start the rebuild. Totally different now. Hawks still have Mrazak plus 3 other goalies signed to NHL deals. And Hawks have WAY MORE draft capital than they had last year. Murray isn't a need for Hawks so Leafs pay more than moving back 13 to dump him. And Muzzin is a non starter in this deal. Hawks don't make the trade if Muzzin is in for a 2nd. Hawks don't offer better than Dallas 3rd (#93) and in that case Leafs probably don't make the trade.

Why wouldn’t Chicago just sign a goalie in Free Agency instead of trading for Mrazek? Because they got a 1st. Same is the case with this trade. Who wouldn’t want to move up 20 spots into the 1st round for 1 year of Murray? And they don’t have to pay Muzzin, as he’s on LTIR, insurance pays him not the Hawks

Using that rationale, Muzzin can just stay in Toronto then, right? Hawks don't take Muzzin without being compensated to do so.

Muzzin cap is there for game 1, so if Toronto wants to spend the 5m from Muzzin before the season starts, they’ll need to trade him. Cap space is the last thing Chicago is worried about for the next few years

So Toronto gains a benefit for moving Muzzin out. Ff season cap flexibility. They have to pay for that. It's not free. There's no issue with the Murray part of this deal. Hawks get the 1st. Leafs get the 2nd. But Hawks aren't giving the Leafs cap flexibility just because they have the cap space to do it. You have to see that makes no sense.
