The Sabres giving up their best prospect for a goalie playing in the defensive heaven that is boston's system is exactly not a more realistic trade. Unless the previous one involved Dahlin or something.

Sabres would just offer sheet him and make Boston Counter

There is nothing realistic about Buffalo wanting Swayman. The goaltenders they already have are at least as good as he is. He is a very average backup goaltender once you take away the elite defenders in front of him. If someone offer sheets him this off-season they will regret that decision pretty quickly.

Crazy concept: A good player can be good on a great team. If anything, great teams are great because they have a lot of good players.

Crazy concept: a mediocre goaltender, leaving a very good defense behind will suddenly look like crap on a brand new team with a less defense first oriented approach, that is paying him way too much money for numbers he put up behind a defense first team.

I think you can find stats like you know Goals Saved about expected which literally show what goalies are carried by their team and what goalies play well and last time I checked Swayman had a very good GSAX which means he saved the defence quite a few times

A guaranteed starting goalie who is still young and will get better > a Center prospect who has cracked the NHL yet.

Kulich is good but he’s not no all star yet and could still just out, it’s not like he has some Shane wright/ bedard/ beniers hype/ potential yet

Giving up future picks is attractive; giving up our 2nd best center prospect in the process, not so attractive.

You can throw all the advanced stats you want at me, the eye test tells me that Swayman is not a number one goaltender. Even if he were, Buffalo isn’t really looking for another young goaltender right now. If they are looking for a goaltender, they want a one or two year Band-Aid to work with Levi, not somebody who wants to take the job away from him before he ever has any chance of getting it.

He just had maybe the best age 18 AHL season ever, after dominating the world Juniors. He's one of the top prospects in the world.

There are 2 players on the bruins he'd be in play for, mcavoy or pastrnak, not that it would be 1 for 1 or Boston would trade either.

We refused to trade him for meier or chychrun

He didn't even start for Boston this year lmao.
He is not a guaranteed starter, look at binnington took the league by storm and now is not even above replacement level.
Goalies don't carry that type of value.

Well you see when we signed Ullmark, swayman was a rookie and rask had a high chance of not returning so of course we were gonna sign a vet goalie to help him. We knew Ullmark was good but did we expect him to become a Vezina nominee. No we didn’t, yes Swayman has his kinks but he is a great goalie and is only 24 it just sucks for him that a guy also in his spot was Arguably the best goalie this year.

Use your head and do your research before talking.

Funny how you make it seem like swayman doesn’t play much lol considering since we signed Ullmark, swayman still has started 47% of the games.

He was even the better goalie in 21-22

You must have a **** eye test lol. Assuming the most view time you get on swayman is verse buffalo you should have noticed that swaymans career stats vs buffalo are.

            (6-0-1) (1.54 GAA) (9.37sv%)

So you know keep saying that swayman doesn’t do nothing and that our defence does all the work for him.

You have no evidence to prove that swayman isn’t a starter. Any analyst/ reporter/ writer/ NHL pro/ NHL ex pro will tell you that swayman is a good goalie and has a very bright future.

I am well aware of both swayman game log from both years.

I am just poking holes in your argument.

And as a buffalo fan I watched a lot of Ullmark, love him and I think he's good. But him being a Veinza goalie kinda proves everyone's point, that the goalies in bostons system are skewed to being better than they actually are. Boston is by far the best defensive in the league and it boosts their stats.

You've brought GSAx but a pretty logical explanation for their increased GSAx is a smaller sample size.

If boston is only giving up 4 quality chances a night then their goalie making 4/4 saves boosts their gsax. Compare that to a goalie like merzilikens who faced 10 quality chances a night and went 7/10 dropping is gsax.

Numbers start the story but don't totally explain it, there is still a large subjective matter when it comes to sports analytics.

So you were able to watch, analyze and remember every single shot Swayman has faced this season, right?

all teams decline as they are overpays, Swayman is worth a 2nd round pick at most

There is nothing realistic about Buffalo wanting Swayman. The goaltenders they already have are at least as good as he is. He is a very average backup goaltender once you take away the elite defenders in front of him. If someone offer sheets him this off-season they will regret that decision pretty quickly.

Sabres not trading for him because of Levi, but the back end of this comment is just so unbelievably braindead

Yeah, I’m full of **** about everything right? I guess we will see who is right about him. There’s a decent chance he doesn’t get traded or offer sheeted anyway. Sheltered behind the defense that keeps the A+ chances to a minimum will inflate anyone’s numbers back there. He reminds me a lot of Ray Emery. Ray played behind some very good defenses that made him look better than he was. He had some good games too, but when it mattered, he crumbled every single time.

I guess Vasilevskiy is also only good because of the great defense in front of him, right?

You know there are stats that try to eliminate the defense affect right? And Swayman was 3rd in the NHL in goals save above average/60 last year. Wouldn't have a problem with you saying he's a bit overrated or you'd like to see him in a different system, but saying he's an average backup is just a stupid Stephen A Smith type of take backed up by absolutely nothing

Vasilevski won 3 cups, clearly not crumbling when it mattered.

Like I said, there’s a decent chance he stays in Boston. I have my doubts that teams will offer sheet him, more likely calling about Ullmark, who Boston would be more likely to trade. I guess we’ll see if the Bruins would trust him as the #1 next season, but I find it more likely they’ll want a 1a 1b situation where both guys play 35+ games.

Lightning* won 3 Cups and Vasilevskiy did it in front of strong defenses, doesn't that mean he's only good because of that?

I actually wouldn’t say Tampa had a very strong defense for those runs. Outside of Hedman, Cernak, and Sergachev its always been a patchwork mess of cheap guys they wouldn’t trust with the game on the line since they can’t afford better. That’s why Hedman, Cernak, and Sergachev played nearly 30 minutes a game. But they also knew they could get away with one and a half pairings of garbage in front of Vasilevskiy, because they can trust him. But I think you knew all that.

There is obviously no comparison between Vasilevskiy and Swayman. I think the days of one guy playing 60+ games every season may be over. Teams probably will lean toward a 50-50 split in goal, so no one is a traditional number one. The question becomes who you trust when the playoffs begin, and who gets most of those games. Look at Vegas. They definitely don’t really have a number one goaltender. They used a combination of five or six guys this season.
