Optimistic and tried to be realistic Offseason v2

Created by: Brain
Team: 2023-24 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2023
Published: Jun. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Goals for this were as follows: Strengthen D, get some more reliable PK guys, get a reliable G to pair with Levi, all without breaking the bank money and prospect wise due to all of the upcoming extensions. I think this does that in a relatively realistic manner (with some assumptions, such as WPG fire sale)

Just a note on Lybushkin, I wanted to make sure I kept him on the team and in the lineup because the Sabres have drafted and signed a lot of Russian players over the last few years, so having another Russian player on the team/in the system hopefully will be good for the younger Russian players transition better to North America.

Trades
1.
BUF
  1. 2023 4th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Olofsson helps CHI power play, MIGHT end up on a line with bedard and helps CHI to cap floor and with 1 year till UFA, could flip at deadline.
2.
BUF
  1. 2023 6th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Bryson somehow becomes 2nd highest paid D-man for Arizona and helps them be bad yet again.
3.
BUF
  1. 2024 5th round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
Greiss won't be back next year, STL has nearly their entire roster signed already minus backup G, so here's one relatively cheap.
STL
  1. Comrie, Eric ($900,000 retained)
4.
BUF
  1. Forbort, Derek
Additional Details:
doubt buffalo is one of the 3 teams on his NTC, so clears some cap for Boston as they reload.
BOS
  1. 2023 4th round pick (BUF)
5.
BUF
  1. Connor, Kyle
  2. DeMelo, Dylan
Additional Details:
IF... and again, IF WPG decide to tear it down, Connor has the most trade value. This trade is an eichel type deal (1st, 2nd, young roster player and great prospect) and then they also get a younger RHD that's RFA to take over for DeMelo.
WPG
  1. Jokiharju, Henri
  2. Mittelstadt, Casey
  3. Östlund, Noah
  4. 2023 1st round pick (BUF)
  5. 2024 2nd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Sabres get Power's D partner and a Top 6 PPG player that pushes younger players down and adds depth.

I would enjoy this. I would think bothConner and DeMelo costs a bit more.
I would also like to bring Jost back

The blues have no need for comrie, we have binnington obviously but also we have Hofer, we should have a 1a and 1b tandem and hofer may become the 1a by the end of the season

I think the demelo/connor deal is interesting, but I dont think its realistic. Not from WPG''s end, but Adams isn't a big moves kind of guy. He doesnt like taking risks of any kind. Demelo for a pick I could buy though.

Forbort probably doesnt fit what they are after but I bet anything they push for Grzelcyk

Originally I had UPL, but figured Mittlestadt had more value so I switched it. Either works, WPG can choose either.

Yeah, the Blues have zero need or cap for Comrie. Even behind Hofer is Zherenko, who is about at where Hofer was the start of last season. They're low on cap and more than good on goalies.

STL just looked like a team that could use another goalie after Hofer lost to Latvia (joking). Comrie can go to any team or can easily bury his last year in the AHL.

Whoops. I made a mistake. I saw Connor and thought you were after Hellebuyck, like most of the Buffalo ACGM's. Sorry about that, but that isn't getting Kyle Connor with or without UPL.

I like Jost but think he fits more as a 13th forward and he might have offers somewhere else. Do you think Connor/DeMelo is super far off or how much more needs to be added, in your opinion?

Fair. Hellebuyck is such a good goalie but its his next contract that makes me not want sabres to get him.

Genuine question, does Kyle Connor have more value than Eichel? Saying that a 1st, 2nd, roster player who had around 60 points, and a top prospect isn't getting him is about the same as Tuch/Krebs/1st/2nd, and the 1st rounder is 13 overall in a deep draft whereas Vegas' was 16th (which funny enough was Ostlund)

Eichel has a more expensive contract, wasn't going to play in Buffalo anymore and requested a trade. None of those apply to Connor and the Jets don't want to trade him. So, you need to give them a reason to do it.

I would rather him on the 3rd line than Kulich. He is a good pk and bottom 6 guy. Has scored goal(s). Saw today that his career has produced similar to Copp, worth continuing to see what he can do.
IM not sure on added value for the trade, maybe making it this years 2nd and maybe UPL instead of Ostlund? I think Conner with 3 years is going to cost a lot. MIght not be the right direction for K.A

Eichel is a center, which typically gets paid more than wingers and I'm assuming a Jets rebuild in this. Dubois just requested a trade, Wheeler, Hellebuyck, Scheifele all entering last years of their deals, so that's not too far fetched to assume. Jets don't want to or don't have to trade him, but Kyle Connor is the only one who doesn't have trade protection and is signed for 3 more years, so they can get the most for him.

I doubt CHI is gonna pay for Olofsson. It's just not in the cards for them right now. I'm sure BUF could get something for him, though.

everyone doing Sabres Armchair GM stuff is sending him to NSH so I wanted to find a slightly different place for him.
