Is Columbus drafting Catlsson that night, waiting to see what San Jose does and then trading Carlsson to Montreal after San Jose draftsMichkov?? I cannot recall the last time in the NHL I saw a player get drafted by one team (and do the few photos with the GM and owner on stage etc) and then a few minutes later get traded to another team. I think teams think this is bad optics.

The other alternative is to trade the #3 pick before it is made and then CBJ has to HOPE that San Jose takes Michkov so that they get Smith. Otherwise CBJ would be stuck with whomever they want after Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith are gone. If they are ok with that scenario then this trade is more likely, but I am not sure that they are OK with it.

Yes. Columbus would draft Carlsson and then see what SJ does. If SJ takes Michkov, the Jackets would then trade the rights to Carlsson to Montreal and proceed to draft Smith at 5 plus get some extras. Now I do think the Jackets push for Dach instead of Dvorak. That could be debated but this is a structured deal you could see.

first off, it's a really weird situation by Columbus, probably quite unlikely, trading their just drafted player. I don't think you would be able to get Dach if Smith was available, especially because I think MTL have Smith over Carlsson on their draft board.

interesting trade but not if you want dach instead not likely to happen though.... if montreal must draft the russian i think that is ok and we keep our picks and dach as we are still rebuilding next year as well.. not in a rush as we wont make the playoffs in our tough division next year anyway

why wouldn't CBJ just take smith at 3 if they want him that bad? in this scenario you have here it doesn't make sense for MTL to trade assets. If your saying if SJ was guaranteed to take Michkov at 4, and CBJ want smith, MTL could just wait for Leo at pick 5

First Trade - no needed just draft Carlsson.

Second trade - Calgary wants too much for Lindholm, no trade for him is going through without one of 3rd OA, Johnson, Sillinger, Marchenko or Jiricek, and it’s not worth it to gamble on an extension.

3rd trade - just keep Robinson, he is one of Gaudreau’s best friends and he’s the fastest player on the team, play him in the bottom 6 and let him forecheck like a MF.
