Description
Keep scheifele and fill in holes with impact players while the young guys like lucius and lambert come up. I’m keeping scheifele because I think Bowness has really helped his game and at least for the first half, we saw the old scheifele who played a decent all round game come back. I think Bowness can round his game out like it was years ago. I also don’t think he’s a big problem in the room. The jets have the same (arguably worse) problems when scheifele isn’t in the room. So I don’t think it’s fair to pin the problems solely on him. Especially if wheeler is the leader.

Scheifele has also proven his crucial he is to the jets’ success. The jets are 3-2 with scheifele playing more than one game for the jets in a series and are 0-2 when he isn’t. Specifically, they are a whopping 1-10 in playoff hames without scheifele. He’s that important to this team. Therefore, if he’s willing to stay, we should absolutely keep him. With so much instability, keeping scheifele might allow this team to remain a competitive team, which is what I think think should do. Rebuilding is not an option with this core since it’s simply too good.

Therefore, after these moves, the jets offer schiefele a 6x9.5 extension.

Looks like helly won’t be staying so that somewhat changes the dynamic of the offseason. My main target is swayman. Dubois is moved to Boston (perfect player for the big bad bruins) and they send back swayman and carlo. Both are hits, but their centre core is very bare so I think they value dubois higher. I also have a Reilly for Stanley swap since Boston could use a young and cheap defensemen with size while also dumping some cap.

The helly trade just makes sense in my opinion. With 3 top 6 forwards moving out this summer, bringing back two forwards with term/control is crucial. Iaffalo would be a good fit next to ehelrs and scheifele on a new look top line, while vilardi can grow into the 2C role with time.

Finally, the Anaheim move is a cap move. Wheeler and schmidt move the other way for a pure cap dump wheeler is retained and moved for assets which Anaheim keeps. So basically they make silfverberg into a few assets and schmidt while also reaching the cap floor. In my opinion, that’s a good deal for a rebuilding team. The jets gets some cap space and also move wheeler out to turn the leadership over to the young guys.

My immediate goal with the established RFAs in vilardi and swayman was to sign them long term. I would have signed Samberg too but I think he still has something to prove for a long term extension and I didn’t have cap space.

With the acquisition of Carlo, I had to move Dillon. Therefore, I moved him to the canes for a couple of 2nds. This is one of those “any team” trades.

Blackwood and Raanta are also brought in to provide about 35-40 games combined while swayman has the rest.

I’m a big fan of Tom Willander so I draft him 18 oa.

Boston would be stupid to even consider that.

Their cap situation in no way gives them the ability to sign one player to 8m+ without spreading themselves to thin everywhere else.

On top of that a #2 center that has begged out of 2 cities and quit on his teammates in one of them is not the guy anyone should break the bank for.

The PLD delusion has truly gotten out of hand. PLD has only ever managed to be a 60 point physical 2C. The league has already seen the spectacular failure that was the Horvat trade, and it’s very unlikely that any team will be willing to repeat the Isles stupidity. PLD isn’t even willing to sign with the Jets, so the Jets have no leverage whatsoever. Everyone knows he wants to go to Montreal, and Hughes sure as hell isn’t going to be dumb enough to just give away the massive advantage he has in trade talks. I have heard rumors of PLD being willing to sign in Minnesota and Boston, and whilst both teams desperately need long term center options, neither can truly afford the 8-9mil ask that PLD wants.

The only other option the Jets have is to trade him anywhere that is willing to use him as a rental at bottom of the barrel price. His diva nature has severely ruined any value he has in the trade market. The Jets should be lucky if they get anything if true value for PLD.

Goalie market is tight. Going to need a 6th/7th round pick for Blackwood.

The proposed deal is Wheeler would be flipped in a trade that they would retain but I would be happy with a Sliverberg/Schmidt trade.

I agree with keeping Scheifele and signing him to an extension. Dubois is gone and looks like time is up with Helly, return on these 2 should be good. Like getting rid of Schmidt's contract to a team that could benefit the team and player. Hoping Wheeler leaving Winnipeg will make the locker room better. I think only one of Raanta or Blackwood is needed. Like Dillon but we have to make room for Heinola or dare to I say Stanley who I actually like on the 3rd pairing.

Whatever happens in the offseason should be interesting in Winnipeg.

Not if the Devils don't qualify him...which they won't, making him a UFA. There are a TON of goalies with a better Sv% than Blackwood.

LA already made their dumb goalie contract signing with Petersen that failed miserably. No way they give Helle $10m. LA isn't giving up a 1st or Vilardi when they can sign Helle next offseason for free if they want too. Goalies aren't worth that much in trades. All these horrible trades for a goalie to LA are ridiculous (Hart, Helle, Ullmark). Big no from LA.
