Selling Patience

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2023-24 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 12, 2023
Published: Jun. 12, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assume Columbus makes the subsequent moves to make the cap work, if it can…
Draftees and prospects on roster only for visual purposes.
This is all about taking a big step backwards in order to take 2-3 giant steps forward in 2-3 seasons.
I assume this team would pick in the top 15 of the ‘24 draft too…which adds more value to the return for Kaprizov

And the Jackets are now ~$6M over the cap plus whatever contract Addison signs. They also have no road towards upgrading their top 6C in the next few years. Pass.

I love Carlsson, but man this team would be baaaaaaaad next year. Unless you have some winger prospects in the pipeline that I don't know of, I wouldn't do this.
Unless the plan is to tank for 2OA and nab Eiserman.

I get that, I really do…but a true #1 center to go with all the wing depth the Wild have in the cupboards would be incredible too.

If he was 22/23 and/or the Wild were legit Cup contenders I wouldn’t consider it, but he’s (already) going to be 26 next year and only has 3 more (for sure) years of being on the Wild…
I actually think this makes a ton of long-term sense…IF and only IF Carlsson (or Smith) ends up as a star!

The wild wouldn't sell tickets if they trade kaprizov. We already know what happened a few years ago during that losing season when fans stopped showing up and Russo along with other Minnesota media members reporters showing how wild were covering up sections.

I know this team would be bad next year which (IMO) only adds to the overall value of this return. I am, after all, selling patience!

Many fans would revolt, no doubt…but this team would be crazy good for a decade after this! I, for one, am completely sick of the Wild being mediocre and I would be more than willing to sacrifice a season or two for a decade of potential greatness!

and that's fine if you want to have the argument about trading him for someone like Ellias Petterson, but for an unproven draft pick is just crazy

That's the thing, no prospect is a sure thing. Your giving up a franchise player, & as much I am sick of the same thing, giving up franchise player for a maybe is a no go for me. We thought the same of Rossi. Wiild owner also is too much money driven and you can't do that with this hockey fanbase. Look at how fans have turned on the Minnesota Twins

Carlsson looks like the player we’ve wanted for sooooo long. But while I agree that Kap being 26 is a bit of a concern, I do think we’re really close. Next summer we should be in a position to do what Seattle did with Bjorkstrand and I’m a big believer in the prospect pool.

With our strength on the W, if Rossi can come in and be a real 2C, we’ll have a very strong lineup up front with a good mix of young and vet talent. It will look nothing like what we’ve seen the past 2 years. I’ve got my fingers crossed for Simashev or Edstrom at 21 and really looking forward to doing some damage with KK in 24-25.

Edstrom would be perfect for the Wild at 21!

Carlsson, Ek, and Edstrom down the middle…moving Rossi and Khusnutdinov to the Wing with Boldy, Ohgren and Yurov, et al…I’m pretty sure we would forget all about Kaprizov, Zuccarello, and 1st round exists very easily and very soon!

Even if you replace Carlsson with Rossi, I like how it looks. We need to address the D corps though. My guess is we take some bigger guys in RD 2.

Forgetting the best player to ever don the jersey is ridiculously inconceivable. Fans would **** about losing him whether the team was successful or not.

I think if Rossi can be moved to wing (like here) it makes everything else better and easier.

Ceulemans and Strbak a bigger dmen.

The fans would gladly forget all about Kaprizov if they actually put a legit Cup contender on the ice for a decade!
