Pittsburgh needs to be using that pick unless they get a young, team controlled star player back. Barabanov is nice, based on his cap hit. But he is a pending UFA and not a star.

I can see that Detroit trade happening though. Type of move that makes sense for both teams.

So yes on that Detroit trade. No on that San Jose trade.

It's a decent idea but the values off for Detroit. LA just paid the equivalent of two 2nd to dump 6 million over 2 years. This trade would be more in keeping with the comparables if you made it the 41 instead of the 17. I'd be willing to take Petry as well for that price.

I'd be ok with that if it happened.

I don't think 17 and 14 oa are much different in this draft so I'd say no to eating Granlund to move up but night of the draft if someone they really like I'd there then maybe.

It's the difference of getting the guy you want so yea it could be very different. That being said, I think the Penguins would be stupid as hell to not use just their 4th 1st round pick in the last decade to get the best player they can. They have one of , if not the worst prospect pools/future.

The athletic article actually was granlund + 14 for #31 not 17.

It was 5 + 31 from Montreal

For

9 + 17 from Detroit and wings take michkov

Then it was 14 + granlund from Pitt and wings draft Honzek at 14

For

31 from Detroit

Wings get michkov and Honzek at 5 and 14 + granlund

It depends. In the a situation like the mock below where Willander goes 15th to Nashville the 14th pick would get us Willander. This is obviously a draft day trade.

Would agree as a Sharks fan. Or if it is 17th overall coming for him, Pittsburgh gets to toss in a 1 year cap dump type of guy to SJ or SJ tosses in Gregor, Labanc, or the CAR 3rd rounder (not sure how cap would work on Labanc) to justify the move up in picks. Or PIT could just cut out the middle man and trade Granlund and 14th overall to SJ for Barabanov since that is effectively the way that the deal played out.

Would love to get another 1st rounder ahead of the NJD pick at 26th overall. Combine that with the 36th overall pick and you have lots of ammunition to move up and down the draft board for whatever guy(s) you want. Can rebuild a prospect pool quickly that way.

I was just quoting the actual athletic trade if you see what was mentioned in the post above, it wasn't mine

A draft where we get Michkov and Honzek would be phenomenal.

Solves our top wing and preps us for a 2nd line of
Mazur-Kasper-Honzek
Which would be one of the best, grittiest, 2-way lines in the league.

I read a different article from max on the athletic where Honzek had multiple meetings with Detroit, more then any other team and Honzek wants to be a red wing based on all the meetings. If there are no trades I wouldn't even be shocked if they take him at 9 at this point, which I wouldn't want them to do. Think he's still there at 17 potentially

I love Honzek; great guy and wouldn't hate him at 17 nor trading up for him. My only issue is he projects as a great middle-6 guy, no? High floor, alright ceiling?

I feel like we need a guy with a hiiiiiigh ceiling.

Yeah draft day anything can happen, I don't love the Rd enough in this draft to eat Granlund to move up for willander, maybe Sandin-pillikka though.

Michkov. I think you'll be happy. Dunno why Habs wont draft him but I've accepted it awhile ago. He's the 2nd most talented kid in the draft. I'm also fine with Reinbacher if he can be anywhere near Seider levels but you can only hope. That's what the draft is, nothing guaranteed. Taking big swings is the best course. Fully agreed. Yzerman seems to like his enigmatic Russians. Kent Hughes is a wild man at the draft. Dubas unleashed from MLSE. Will be fascinating. Cheers.

I agree with everything you are saying except I think he's 3rd, just love fantilli so much and think he has the most talent in the draft. I know it's a very minority opinion in the whole world, but when it's all said and done I think overall as a player fantilli will be better then bedard. I also want to point out being the 3rd best talent in this draft still ranks him #1 in the last 5 years easily and he will be a super star when he gets to the Nhl, I support the wings if they make this deal to get michkov

Has Montreal said they won't draft Michkov? You aren't the only Habs fan here that would like to see Montreal take him. There are also Habs fans here that don't want to wait a couple of years for Michkov.
