Yeah the NJ trio is going to get a lot more out of those given their age, recent success and cap rising soon. They have the ability to build around those guys with solid depth and supporting cast.

To be fair, NY has squeezed a lot more out of those 3 considering they are a bit older. NJ still has to live up to it over the duration of their contracts but I don't think they'll have any problem doing that.

I would take the NJ trio easily.

New Jersey is in the process of creating a very very very scary potential dynasty. Short and Long Term, I think they are the best built team league wide. And I don't think it's close.

Rangers have a window of the three seasons until Panarin's contract expires; New Jersey's window is open for twice that long. And the Devils will be improving as Hughes and Nemec learn their craft; it's hard to see what prospects NY has that will have the same effect.

I said that before last season actually as well. New Jerseys performance this year, reinforced my beliefs. AND they got Meier added in.

To succeed right now I would want them to get a top pair LD, which would push everyone else down. But Hughes could also easily turn into that.

New Jersey is in a VERY good place.

I'll take the Devils trio. They will only get better. The Rangers trio are at (or possibly even past?) their best and if we say at their best they only have that for a few more years. NJ can build around what they have as the cap goes up, and potentially build towards a perennial contender at the very least if they play it right.

Even with the top LD... I have concerns about goaltending and depth in general
I think the Hurricanes have a much better short and medium-term future considering they are better behind the bench and they have a better d-core

Tbf the same could be mostly be said about the Canes for a few years back. The two teams have been built pretty similarly.
Definitely agree with coaching being in favor of Carolina, but I think Brind'Amour is the best coach in the league no matter who he’s coaching for, and we saw him simply putmaneuver Lindy stuff at almost every stop in the post season. Lindy is still my preference out of most of the recycled coaches this league sees though, and both coaches seem to be well loved by their respective teams. Can’t feasibly say coaching leans NJ or will lean NJ though

Hard to judge the depth in an offseason that feels prime to flip some of the depth around, but it’s not anything that worries me as a devils fan, with the exception of a center prospect
Goaltending in particular reminds me of what Carolina was icing a few years back, which was just mostly league average stuff with the frustrating points

There’s the welldocumented analytics approach that both teams have taken to success, which is a major similarity, although NJ’s has found it easier to get some finishing as of late, and finishing is definitely the biggest question mark in the Canes window

NJ is also a sneakily good defensive team, but it’s a bit hard to compare a team that will likely roll with two rookies on the back end next year, to the group in Carolina, just because of the unknowns. NJ could very well end up the better d core with the ceilings of Luke Hughes, and Simon Nemec, but again those are question marks until real results come through.

NJ holds the strength down the middle with Hischier/Hughes/Mercer (when he’s a center and not a wing), and I think that pushes me towards them in comparison to Carolina and the weaker center group. Clearly I’m an NJ fan though, but I also do prefer the centers as opposed to the wingers which I think is the stronger point for Carolina’s forwards.

Anyways, I’ve lost track of what I’m really trying to say. Basically I think they’re built similarly, and I’m a pretty big fan of the way both teams are built. Both rosters are awesome, and should come away from their respective windows with rings. Rant over

I think we're both set up for sucess both in the short and long term... I've been impressed at how quick your gm has been able to get the team back to contention
