The Habs should only acquire Dubois if they can shed salary in the same trade

Otherwise, just wait until he becomes a UFA next year.


I also wonder if Dubois would play for the Habs at league minimum.


Given that it's the only NHL team Dubois wants to play for.


This is a situation where Kent Hughes could have massive amounts of leverage over Dubois when negotiating over his extension.

Salary should be coming to WPG in a PLD trade I agree, but with that being said...why would they sell him for less than he'd get as a pure rental to a contender at the TDL?

Well Dubois got cheap… both the trade and money. The Jets get way more by either forcing him to play one more season and goes for the cup or by trading at the tdl to anyone who wants him

Cuz maybe he won't sign a one-year deal with Winnipeg and that you'd be better off trading him than having a star player not reporting to training camp?

You think PLD would rather sit out an entire year???? Unlikely. I realize PLD isn't going to get a massive haul like some people think, but WPG won't give him away for pennies on the dollar either. A fair deal will be reached by the draft, I almost guarantee it.

Whats fair? It aint 3 1sts like many seem to think and nobody can fit that PLD contract without bad money going back. LTIR overages will effect mtl in 2o24 and the Kings dont have the cap space this season either. There really isnt much of a market for a player seeking big money in a hard cap world. It aint going to be close to what Winnipeg paid in the first place with Laine.

Yes, Dvorak or Armia absolutely need to go as the Habs will be back in LTIR with Price and cap overages in the next few years without moving that contract. Any deal not giving back money to the Jets isnt believable which includes any offer sheet and probably why the Jets didnt elect for team arbitration as teams with interest dont have the cap
