There's one scenario under which I'd disagree that it would be easy. If the Habs had a second trade for Karlsson lined up. Karlsson comes in with an $8M cap hit for 4 years. The Habs could eat $4M of that, at which point you'd have to wonder what the return could be from a serious contender for Karlsson at $4M for 4 years.

It does require the Habs put away the PLD folly and focus on building a team with kids on their ELCs.

I don't think MTL would trade Dach for Karlsson so basically to move up one spot is costing 31st over all, Mesar, Savard, Allen.... Yeah Habs don't touch that

Montreal isn't interested in Karlsson. Karlsson isn't interested in Montreal. Move along.

Really? You move to 4th (means you get a big-4 prospect) and you get Karlsson at 8.0 x 4 years... it only cost you Dach, Mesar and a very late 1st

At the same time, it's completely useless for Montreal to gear up now

Ya thats a massive overpay. Karlsson at 33 years old at 8 million is still horrible.

He had 1 EVP less than Connor McDavid though, the best offensive forward ever.

But he needs to be on a good defensive team and especially a good defensive partner (like when he had Methot)

This is a terrible take. EK at $8/yr is insanely good value

I want to save this comment for next year after EK gets at least 80 points. If you watch him play you can tell his injury was the thing that was holding him back previously. Healthy Karlsson is going to repeat the performance.

He just needs to have a much better supporting cast... Sharks team defense was atrocious last season

He was responsible for 50% of their points/offense too. One guy. The San Jose Karlssons. I do expect a dip in production with Meier gone, but yeah it would be amazing to see Karlsson play on a more competent team with several other top players.

It's not just about top players, more like a good team with a good system and supporting players who will allow Karlsson to not be overwhelmed defensively
