The Devils aren’t getting a 1st for Sharangovich from anybody it’s a crazy over pay at the least valuable position in the off season. Hard no.

A player would have to be good to warrant a higher return

This depends on whether or not the Wild think Rossi can stick at center. All things considered and equal, I would trade a 6 foot right-shot wing for a 5-9 left-shot wing any day of the week!

Oh, you chose to be mad. let me reword it then.

A player would have to be good to warrant a higher return given up by one of the 31 other NHL GMs

Don't engage. There's a lot of Devils fans who are analytics darlings on this site. They are so focused on GSVA & WAR numbers that they cannot see the forest for the trees.

You need a mix of size, skill, and grit to win in the playoffs. Anderson has his place of a Stanley Cup contender. Ask Vegas, Colorado, and Tampa fans and I'm sure they would agree.

Hardly cap compliiant if bonuses pan out which reduces cap for next season. Overpaid for one year of Hellebuyck. Anderson's a third liner getting paid 5.5m

How many of those teams have up the cupboard for a Josh Anderson though?

All teams are analytically inclined, but they certainly do not make it their guiding light on how they construct their rosters.

Also - and this is a really hard conversation to have - Advanced Stats quite often offer context to describe the basic stats we see, but they don't accurately predict what a player will do when transplanted from one six man unit to a completely different 6 man unit. Ergo, Josh's stats on a bad Montreal team are not equal to Josh's stats on a better overall team.

We've seen Josh on solid teams, and he isn't anything special. You seem to be mixing up the cause and effect somewhat. Josh anderson on that contract is part of WHY montreal sucks, not the other way around

Well apparently he’s not what it takes to actually win the Cup then, or to sustainably be a true contender, as we’ve seen with a “bad Montreal team”

Not necessarily true though. He plays 2nd line minutes and power play minutes in MTL. One can’t assume he would have anywhere near that role on a team that is better, let alone a roster that’s a real contender
