Agreed, I was sad to see him get traded. I liked him when he played on the Leafs. Lots of potential.

At worse, he's a good AHL player who can be called up due to an injury.

Good contract, but if he makes it full time next year, that's one less roster spot to spend on to reach the cap floor

He signed for less than his qualifying offer, so he probably would have become a UFA if he didn’t sign it, and the last year of his Toronto contract guaranteed him NHL money even if he was in the minors, which this one doesn’t, so I don’t think it’s a big win for him, but he probably figures that by staying with Chicago he has a reasonable chance of sticking with the NHL team, which could lead to a better deal next summer.
