an interesting and unrealistic idea

Created by: Who_is_Jimmy_Stu
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2023
Published: Jun. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not meant to be realistic at all. Thought it would just be a fun exercise to reunite the Cat and Kane.

I tried to make the trade values fairly reasonable. Let me know.

Extra 1,333,333 of cap space is if the Leafs buyout Matt Murray.

This team would be so fun to watch.

Yeah, trading Norris would be an absolute disaster. Without that C depth Ottawa goes nowhere, and expecting Giroux to hold that slack isn't fair to him. It's not the role he's fit for, or the role that he came here to fill.

Anton Forsberg.

He 100% would have been worth this if he didnt just **** BOTH his knees, he will need to prove he can still be a 1B

We should never have extended him. He should have been traded at the deadline when he was playing so well 2 years ago frown

If hes injured obviously SJ declines. Uninjured, though he is worth a 3rd.

AZ isn't giving up a pick so they can pay Joseph $9.3m over the next 3 seasons. That's not the sort of contract the 'Yotes are looking to add.

Hawks trade is interesting. Those two prospects fill needs the Hawks have, but I'm not sure how KD rates either guy. He has yet to make a deal where he trades a rostered player for prospects.

Forsberg was one of the better goaltenders (expected goals saved % was incredible) at the time of extension when Ottawa had no other options at the time. Ottawa would have been fleeced in any trade regardless if he was a waiver claim. The 3 year contract is justified considering he was playing out of his mind in front of an injured (and awful) blueline and a defensive zone structure akin to a house-league peewee B level hockey team (highest danger scoring chances given up). He didn't play great last year but he wasn't awful either. Talbot was awful on every level. Sogaard was too young an inconsistent as expected of a 21 year old.

It's no shocker as soon as Gus the Bus left Ottawa he became a Vezina level candidate in front a of what is considered to be a very goalie friendly structure in Minnesota. He also had motivation issues in Ottawa (he's on record saying such things).

If Forsberg can stay healthy, he is absolutely the 1B starter. I do believe Ottawa will go after some insurance (Korpisalo, Hill),

Why is SJS going after a goalie? Aren't they rebuilding? Why not just sign some guy for a few years while the team gets better via the draft. They are already committed to trading EK65.

Totally agree, Ostapchuk in particular is a very intriguing prospect for me.

Him playing out of his mind, is why he should have been moved. He was never going to have higher value. We for certain could have gotten a 3rd round pick for him and used the 3M for a UFA goalie that offseason.

Now were stuck with bad cap, and a missed opportunity

THe motivation issues stemmed from not being given an opportunity in the NHL. "Being Up and Down", hes on record saying as much. If Forsberg would have been traded Gus would have been shown that he has a future in OTT

Him playing out of his mind earned him a pretty team friendly deal, if you ask me. Again, for that price, that's pretty good. It's a calculated risk that didn't pay off this year because of bad team defence. Before blaming Forsy, maybe fix the house B novice level hockey D system in front of him. He wasn't bad this year.

Would you have prefered they go after Campbell? Husso? Kuemper? Holtby? Did any of those goalies have a good year?

And what exactly would Ottawa have spent that 3rd round pick on? Depth? Another goalie? A player that wouldn't have an impact on the roster for another 5 years? A perpetual rebuild?

Bad cap? What are we talking about here? 2.75 is manageable. 6.25 is not hence why MM is now gone forever and will be bought out by Toronto saving us 1.3 in cap this year.

Who would've started this year? Matt Murray? Gus/Talbot? Sogaard who was definitely not ready? Or Forsberg.

Oh brother, you've opened a can lol yeah I basically wouldnt have done any of Dorions moves in the last 2ish years.

But were not gonna see eye to eye here. I question your logic and understanding of cap dynamics where you seem to think we have "saved" anything in paying to dump Murray or saving anything in the retention coming off if he is bought out
