K-Dev does every team volume 7 Chicago

Created by: KDev
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 26, 2023
Published: Jun. 26, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team is ugly. But that was by design and now they have the face of their franchise for next decade and a half. Now is the time to start moving towards contention. Start adding some value players now and by next year or the year after start pushing towards he playoffs.

Strengths: cap space
Weakness: the entire active roster

The idea behind the moves I made is not what the fans will want but what I think the organization will go for. They still want to be at the bottom for at least another year and land another hopeful elite talent at next years draft, however I think they need to show Bedard that they are building toward something and this won’t just be a waste year for him. My plan here was to make a competent top line that won’t be amazing but can at least hang around. My thought here is similar to what the Devils had 2 years ago while Jack Hughes was still a baby. His linemates on the top line were Sharangovich and Janne Kuokkanen and somehow that line worked. I think this top line can prove to work similarly. Additionally they add Soucy just start adding some players they might see as part of the solution to begin turning the corner.

My prediction: 8th in the Central

Again, like every other age I’ve done in this series I put a lot of thought into every move made so if there’s something you don’t like let’s have a conversation about it because I will never pretend to know more than the fans of any team outside of the devils haha.

Why Chicago does this:

I am well aware that every Chicago fan will glare at this trade because they’d rather keep all their picks. I for one think the surplus of picks they have can allow them to find some under privledged players that can give Bedard a little help. Sharangovich proved that he can hang with a superstar like Hughes, I don’t see how this is any different. He should be able to confidently play with Bedard and make a competent line and give him Bedard someone to work with throughout the rest of the rebuild so he isn’t stranded on an island.

Comparable trade:

In 2019 a 24-year-old Andre Burakovsky was traded to the Avs for a 2nd (56th overall) and a 3rd (80th).

I like that trade with Edmonton. Definitely agree it works for both teams. A bottom feeder should definitely take a shot on him. He should be free or cost VERY little to acquire.
Leafs would need to top 10 protect that pick. I would also see if I could snag a 2023 2nd in that trade instead. But overal value is fine. I would much rather do our 2023 1st though since we know its 28th overall.
I think you overpaid for Sharangovich here btw. Remove one of the picks and it's fair.

Wouldn't pay that much for Sharangovich. FC's are about the best EDM can expect for Yamo, at least from CHI that is. Probably wouldn't not do that Murray dump trade. Then again, even with top 10 protection, it could pay off big time in the end.

For not being a Chicago fan this isnt that bad.

Chicago shouldn't sign any of the FA d men, rumour is that C. Jones will not be qualified.

They have a handful of young guys d men that need experience. Chicago has to find out if any of these guys are NHL caliber, the only way is to let them play. Which also plays into having another top 5 OA pick next year.

Philips, Regula, Vlasic and potentially Mitchel if they resign him. Kurashev will be in the lineup if he signs, management likes him.

With the depth of LD prospects the Hawks have, they would not give Soucy a 5 year deal, if they target him at all. It's very likely that Vlasic and Phillips are 2/3 of their left side on D next season.

I can see the Hawks having an interest in Yegor, but not at that price. Hawks '23 3rd (#67) is probably as much as they'd offer. If the Hawks take on Murray, it would only be to get the Boston '23 1st in a pick swap. Too much uncertainty swapping '24 picks.

I also think the Hawks will make a strong run at a UFA forward who can play in the top 6 as well. A Killorn, Bunting, Tatar, Nyquist type of guy. On a one or two year deal at an over market AAV.

Yegor is not worth 55 & 67. I would consider that if he is willing to sign for 4 or 5 years for cheap (like 2.5-3), but I suspect he will want to be paid based on his 46 point season and will go to arbitration to get that payday.

Arbitration will only get him 1-year deal and he will be RFA again next summer. Could also qualify him at $2.05m and still get another bite of the apple. Either way, he is only getting a “payday” if his team gives it to him.

I get all of that....but having to screw around with him on contracts the next 2 Summers until he gets to his UFA payday diminishes what his value would be to me. If he'll sign for 4 or 5 years in the 2.5-3 million range, the orginal proposal of #55 & #67 becomes a maybe for me. If he want's to go year by year for the absolute max he can squeeze, I'm not sure I would even spend #67 at this point where the Hawks are at.

Makes sense. Keep the picks, tank another year, build up when the kids start to arrive.
