Duhaime is 26, a forward and has 27 points in 131 NHL games. 10 in 51 last year.

Why is a team offering a 2nd round pick for him? What am I missing?

He will be lucky to get a 1 way league min NHL contract based on what I am seeing.

Not sure why there is much demand for Duhaime. Defensively sounds but doesn't produce much offensively and he's 26 so not much change of a major development.

He won't get a 2nd

But you're definitely wrong too

I am asking what I am missing. I don't know the player. I just pulled up his card and nothing on the stats sheet is showing me that he is worth more than a min nhl contract.

Is he a ZAR type? So super defensive, quick and hits? If so, he could have value as a 4th liner for sure. ZAR I value around 950k x 2 years. I could see his value being around a 5th round pick.

Is that a proper comparable?

Well that's just objectively wrong. Olivier just signed a 2x1.1 and is an almost identical comp to Duhaime. Same age, same role/usage, same NHL games played, same NHL points. Any number of contract projection sites have him in that same range, and it's been well reported that MN is fielding calls on him.

He's not gonna return a 2nd, but he's not gonna be "lucky to get a 1 way league min" deal.

Yes

It's already been reported there's interest in him if he's traded. Good defensively, always moving his feet, loves to hit, isn't afraid to drop the gloves if needed. And he's got some size too. He's the prototypical 4th line banger that everyone in hockey loves to have. Salary probably comes in around 1M and I'd be happy with keeping him at that price.

awesome - thank you! In that case - 5th round pick should be fair. If Minny pulls a 3rd out of someone, that is a clear win on their end.

That is way to much for TRad and I am prety high on him....like 1st round pick at the TDL high with his 750K cap hit and 20G/40P last season. But that is like 4 2nd rounders....even if one did take his ball and run back to the motherland when he didn't get his way. For all this quantity, I'm not sure there is anything here that gets the Hawks overly excited though and think the Hawks like TRad enough that they'll need to be enticed to move on from him. Beyond the running back to Putin guy, a LHD prospect (when the Hawks are bursting at the seams), and a pair of future 2nds for a team that has to many draft picks as is is not the quality the Hawks will likely want out TRad. I can see not wanting to part with a 1st for TRad, but maybe something like one of Spacek or Bankier and a future 2nd would work better.

What @wojohawk said is SPOT ON from the Hawks perspective. Very solid offer but not the right pieces Hawks would want.

5th rounder for a guy who is an established 3rd/4th liner. A 5th rounder is less than a lottery ticket who likely is someone tending bar at Applebees in 4 years. But hey, I say this with all love. The two most annoying fanbases are TO and Montreal. And it's not close.

4th liners don't get 2nd round picks very often. 4th line guys tend to get 3rd-7th round picks when they are traded.

3rd tends to be the high end. 5th tends to be the norm.

We will see.

And I think the percentage of annoying fans per team are about the same in all sports, for all teams. But when a team has more fans, you will see a lot more annoying ones.

If a team has 1000 fans and 300 are annoying, versus a team that has 10000 fans and 3000 fans are annoying, you are much more likely to see the annoying ones from the team with 10000 fans. That's what's happening with the Leafs and Montreal.
