Makes sense for Edmonton, they need the cap space to re-sign Bouchard and nobody is taking cap this summer. Too bad about Kostin, he's in Moscow and talking to Russian teams right now. He'll likely come back to the NHL, but Edmonton couldn't risk a generous arbitration award so they weren't going to qualify him anyhow. He would've been a UFA by Saturday.
Nice freebies for Detroit though. Both guys can play and Kostin has the power forward thing going on. Edmonton fans will miss both.
Cap flexibility, it's a thing. I guess it's the price to pay for having a contender and having a young defenseman break out in the playoffs. Good problems to have.
