Hawks decline. And Jones probably doesn't waive to play in Canada anyway.

Hawks easily decline the Jones trade. We aren't taking a cap dump, one roster player, and a year of Nylander to pay $10+ million to the following seasons for X amount of years. Rather just hold onto Jones.

Jones is terrible, getting out from his contract should be a boon for you guys.

So the Hawks declining this trade works out for both teams it sounds like? End of discussion.

Just to be clear, any trade that involves Nylander would be contingent on him resigning as he has a NMC, meaning it would have to be a team he'd play for. The Murray contract is almost entirely irrelevant given your cap. Brodie is someone who can fill a top 4 spot for a few years as your team progresses,

Only fairweather fans on the internet would think 7 years of a 28 year old Jones at 8 mil would be cap dump. If you're unable to account for the fact the Blackhawks have worked incredibly hard to ice one of the worst rosters of all time then your read is off.

I don't think the Hawks would be interested in resigning him for $10m a year. He'll be at least 4 years into his new deal before Hawks are serious contenders again. Hawks aren't going to invest that kind of money in a player until they have a much better idea what they actually have with all their draft prospects and they are ready to contend. Also don't see Hawks retaining for 7 years on Jones. Makes Nylander that much more expensive.

I'd call it a maybe, if the offer was on the table when most of the UFAs who could put up similar numbers are gone.

Yeah I'm not too caught up on this one. If you guys don't accept it someone else will.

The retention is weird but Jones is certainly vastly overpaid.

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to retain $1.5M for that long.

The idea is that you do that to capitalize on his value being highest right now. If you don't, his value continues to decline and you not only end up with $9.5 on the cap for a player who is no longer worth that and will become an anchor, but also lose out on the opportunity to get assets in return. The reason they'd have to retain is because they overpaid him by about $1,5 mil in the first place, this is the best time to eat that cap with where they're at as a team.

Maybe swapping Lily for Brodie makes more sense as he fits their timeline better.

His contract doesn't hurt the team in anyway. It keeps us closer to the cap floor. And he is not terrible, just overpaid. Same with other vets on our roster currently.

Yeah 8 million for Perry and Foligno are odd contracts. You can't even move them at the deadline. At 50% they are still a million overpaid.

Cost is much less at the deadline because most of the contract is paid.

Unless a team is in LTIR which most teams will be by the deadline. They are unmovable.
