Virtually any team on Nylander's trade list does not have the cap to trade for him, including the Avs.

Yeah, value wise i don't think there's an issue, but colorado can't add 6 mil to their current roster without moving cap out

Nashville doesn't want Brodie... no thanks... maybe Brodie WITH a 2nd to take him. No way Trotz is giving up a second for him.

You made the d worse, so good job. Brodie is the teams best defender. Literally.

I don't know Olausson, so he may be better than his box car stats. But his boxcar stats stink (1/3 ppg in the AHL). He needs to be a great prospect to be worth the Nylander trade when the other piece is a 1st a year away from a contender, a second 2 years away and a scrub defender.

We would be insane to trade him, but he'd be your second best defenseman

Avs decline. They don't have the cap space.

The Nylander trade return will be low if he doesn't sign an extension before. And it's looking like Nylander wants to test free agency and get the most money possible so his trade value isn't as high as it should be.

As for Brodie, he's old, and not physical enough. Leafs won't miss him.

Brodie may not be physical, but he is by far the Leafs best defender. People have this mistaken belief that physicality is equivalent to defensive quality. Its not. The best defensive forward and defenseman of my generation are/were Bergeron and Lidstrom. Notice how neither of them are particularly physical?

I don't think he can ask for more than Rantanen in Colorado, but on the Leafs, because Marner is making 11, Nylander feels justified demanding 10 million plus.

Yea, but Bergeron and Lidstrom were dominant forces in the postseason. Those two are hall of fame, greatest of all time type players in their positions. Brodie doesn't belong in that conversation AT ALL.

Brodie shrinks in the playoffs. All that fancy stick work and high IQ positioning means nothing if you're not strong enough to clear the front of the net.

Not that that's how a contract negotiation should be done or would be done, at all, but Rantanen is at the end of a deal, not the beginning. He's getting Marner money next time around.

It doesn't really matter, the Avs don't have the space for or the want for another $9mil winger

That’s arguably a better return than OTT got for DeBrincat, and honestly there is a little thing called the cap.

Debrincat tanked his trade value by saying he wants to sign an extension with Detroit only.

How’s that different than saying you want $10M?

Big difference. Nylander doesn't have his eye on any particular team. Debrincat did.

Not really, COL isn’t going to pay him $10M and there are going to be very few teams that will be willing to give him that, throw in who even has the cap space to make the move for him now (something COL doesn’t have) and the fact TML just sitting there over the cap and the rest of the league knows it and thinking you are going to get a return better than DeBrincat might be wishful thinking. I could be wrong though and some GM might be dumb enough not to realize how little leverage Toronto has in being over the cap.

Nobody said Brodie belonged in best all time. He obviously doesn't. I am just trying to show you don't have to be a bruiser to be good defensively. Brodie is good defensively in the playoffs too. He has a single down series and that makes him garbage? Everyone on our d plays BETTER when playing with him. We'd be so lucky if we could clone bim
