Neither team can do this. They both need more cap going back the other way.

If I am Grier, I'd take the Pens deal. But its close.

His last good season before 2023 was 2019 and he is signed for four more seasons. The risk is very high for the new team.

SJ is flooded with LDs so not sure they have interest in LD prospects, but the ones being sent are quality so maybe it doesn't matter, just throwing it out there that they'd probably be looking for RDs or decent forward prospects. Both these returns are decent though but PITs is better

yeah, that's probably fair if SJ will only retain ~20%, but doesn't matter because no way Petry doesn't have SJ listed on his no-trade.

Canes would be trading Pesce in this scenario, as well as Kotche starting in the A

Pens could add Granlund or petry but they would have to throw in something like a third

Yeah, Kotche to the A will still i think reflect some cap hit on the big team, but even in that scenario that leaves the canes with 19 players and the need for another LW and C. I'm not sure what their farm system is like but regardless they'd have to add a couple more guys, would be very close. (still not sure what's happening with TDA as that sounded set in stone).

I think Carolina's biggest issue is that the have Skjei, Pesce, Aho, Teuvo, Jarvis, Necas all up next summer, and obviously everyone's aware Pesce is probably getting traded, but I would bet they want to keep the rest of those guys and that's gonna be $$.

Also not trying to be bias at all here, because I think the canes have a really great roster but if i'm them and getting EK means they lose out on like two of those guys next season, i'm not going for EK. I'd rather keep the cap to make sure I can resign Skjei, Aho, Jarvis and Necas, maybe Teuvo is odd man out but i'd rather the stacked depth than EK. Like if it was the penguins in that situation id rather they pass on EK to be able to sign those guys.

Either way I just don't see it happening this summer given the cap dance the Pens and Canes need to do, unless the sharks agree to eat more or some third team magically appears lol.
