Description
Please list the top ten teams players like Nylander would select for their 10 no trade destination s. I ask because while I'd like a San Jose Karlsson trade am wondering if the Sharks are on that list.

Pretty sure If a team is willing to ante up 8x or 7x at 10 million per, and also put a package together for him, not going to come down to the 10 team list, the way basically everyone is up or near there cap.

Yes San Jose would more than likely be on that list at the moment. Not guaranteed because they have a good franchise and it's a beautiful area but probable. Plus they have cap space. A lot of players who don't want to be traded (I assume Nylander doesn't), lists all the teams with cap space, so they can't be moved

Also, we shouldn't be trading for EK. We don't need a 33 year old for that much cap hit, for that many years. I would only want him at 50% retention, but I wouldn't be willing to pay the cost.

I think Nylander will sign with whoever is willing to pay him the most.

If his agent is a good agent- which he definitely is- then the teams on his no-trade would be the teams that were most likely to trade for him. Also Nylander shouldn't be the cost for EK, and honestly, if you have a management group that thinks having Rielly, Klingberg, and EK on the same team is a good idea, then I'm thinking it's not Nylander and his agent that are being the outrageous ones.

The reason to trade Nylander is get cap for this season. Unlikely the 21 teams on his trade list have the cap for him this year. And really why would the Leafs trade him? They are in a win mode this season and need Nylander.
Let's stop this nonsense that he hasn't been resigned. Over 100 UFA in the summer of 2024 aren't resigned. Are they all going be traded this summer?
And extension talk is nonsensical. Cup contenders never let their star players negotiate without another team when their player is under contract for one more season.
Tell just once, when this negotiation and trade happened.

Agree with you. I like Nylander but think he going to disappointed in his offers next summer.
Look at Bertuzzi....teams are cap strapped, and signing players into their mid thirties.....kinda foolish though it's done, but IMO it's not going to be done as often as before

If Nylander is trying to get absolute top dollar and secure the bag, I can see a scenario where the California teams would be on the list (given the high income tax in that state)

It would have to be a hockey trade and Nylander is under contract for ~7M this year, so a trade in tgat regard shouldn't be an issue.

As for the amount, Nylander is willing to take less in Toronto if Matthews and Nylander are willing to take less. There are bound to be other teams where he's taking less than 10M since his net profit isn't just based on his gross salary. In terms of SJ, though I would imagine the price would be at least 10M (if not more) considering the taxes and their competitiveness. I don't think the Sharks would be interested in keeping him anyways.

Agree, I just don’t see the 10 team list coming into play, more obstacles than the list, finding the right hockey trade with a team willing to offer up the contract that makes him happy. Calgary makes some sense, but probably don’t want another 7/8 x contract with all ready having kadri/Huberdeau/weegar signed up with that term. Sj is kind of interesting, but wouldn’t it be better to get rid of term and money first and draft back a nucleus first? I don’t know sj that well. Washington and there two feet on the gas approach might be interesting also, but ya lots of moving parts to this one.

Yeah, I agree that the 10-team no trade isn't as significant as other factors considering that he probably did use it strategically in the manner TooMalevolent said, although I think it's more so about blocking teams that would have interest in him because of their contention status rather than cap space. That's of course after he blocks which ever teams that he absolutely does not want to play for and that could be few or many.

I think SJ is headed to a full blown rebuild but Grier is taking his time (kind of has to) with trading the old core. Not nearly as aggressive as CHI or PHI. I think WSH would be a team that is interested in Nylander but I can't see them having much to offer the Leafs beyond Kuznetsov+futures and I don't think the Leafs bite. Maybe they do something crazy like deal John Carlson but 1) I think they would be too loyal, 2) I doubt they would trade him while Karlsson is on the market even though he's a much better TWD, and 3) I don't think TOR is going to offer Nylander+ for him, but maybe there could be something done if it's Carlson+Kuznetsov (with retention) for Nylander+Liljegren (probably has to prove he's capable of playing in the top 4)+....

Wouldn't break my heart to have Klingberg included in an EK trade

Good luck signing any free agent ever again.
