If Muzzin is stuck on LTIR…it’s a cash flow thing and not a cap thing. And Leafs have plenty of cash.

Depends. After taxes he would take home almost a million more a season in NC than he would in Toronto

The retention works out to less than Nylanders cap hit for the Leafs, and makes the cap hit work for the Canes

Pesce isn't, never has been and never will be worth Nylander. Or even remotely close to what he's worth. Just stop this nonsense

I think it's the kind of trade that you might make under the mindset of "I should at least get something for him if he's leaving anyway" and Pesce fits a need on the Leafs

But if I only have 8 fingers and 2 thumbs, how can I count a salary cap?

Yeah, this would be a scenario where the Leafs know that they can't re sign Nylander, and the Canes decide that he gives them a better chance to win than Pesce does

Nylander wants to stay, and the team wants him. They are negotiating and will find common ground. Despite the desire of you goons to see the Leafs get wrecked in a Nylander trade. It's not going to happen.

It's great that Nylander wants to stay and that the team wants him, but he still wants to get paid. Everyone knows Matthews and Marner milked the org for every penny they could, so why would Nylander be any different? They won't be able to afford him

I'm trying to explain why this trade might happen... The Leafs don't have enough cap space to resign Nylander at his reported $10m asking price so they decide to shop him and the Hurricanes make sense as a logical trade partner... the Hurricanes have an excess of defensemen and the Leafs need an upgrade at D so it would make sense that any trade between the Hurricanes and leafs would involve a Hurricanes defensemen the other way

This is a made up fact. The actual reality of the situation is they were paid what they deserved when the cap was going up and set to rise big time. Then the pandemic happened and it was stagnant for several years. Now they seem overpaid but it's a false narrative. Matthews actually took a smaller cap percentage than Crosby did on his current deal. That should be enough for people to realize what the truth of the matter is but here we are.

Nylander leaving creates a massive hole up front. Pesce doesn't fill a need the Leafs have. Moving Nylander for Pesce just doesn't make any sense.e

Not really you can just move Knies up... he seems like he is ready for that kind of role

Even if they trade Nylander, they still have Bertuzzi, Domi, Knies and Jarnkrok who can play un complimentary roles with one of the big 2 centres. I knew Leafs fans were delusional, but i didn't think it got any worse than reddit. I guarantee you were one of the people calling Nylander overpaid when he signed his current deal

This is the sort of nonsense that drives me up the wall. I like Knies but he's not Nylander. Nylander is an elite player. He gets crapped on all the time but he's the best player on a tonne of teams and gets underrated because A) he's a leaf and most people on here hate the Leafs more than they like hockey and B) because he has two other superstars on his team that overshadow him. So you guys convince yourself that he's just a passenger so you can get him for half his value. He is not a passenger and is still getting better. Nylander is one of those players than makes things happen all on his own. Those guys are rare and they are the ones that you keep when you have them.

Nope, I have been saying he was a steal the whole time. I have been vocal about Nylander being a 40 goal 90 point player. Made that call when he signed his current deal. He's an elite player and I would find a way to keep him. He'll sign around 9.5, hopefully under and then all this stupid crap will end.

These canes fans are the best; it’s delusional but I think they actually buy the bs they spew. By their own logic, we should be able to trade Brodie + Hirvonen for Aho - where’s his extension? And they argue trading nylander to them because he’s a FA and he’ll walk on the Leafs and they offer Pesce, a FA who’s likely to walk on them 😂. Hilarious
