Are we trying to compete

Created by: GeauxPreds1
Team: 2023-24 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 28, 2023
Published: Jul. 28, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If we are I think we might need to add another legit top 6 forward preferably a top line forward. Because I think this team is still in the mushy middle. Probably will make the playoff as an 8 seed just to get beat in the first round. Or barely miss the playoffs and get another mid round. Getting nylander and lindholm could make Nashville a contender. Yea we’ll have to come off some young prospects and assets but it’s something that puts us closer to competing for a cup. They would have to come with an extension because I wouldn’t want to give up anything for a rental. Fitting them both in the cap would be difficult but it could be done. I didn’t agree all the signings this offseason because I wanted them to rebuild but apparently they don’t want to do that so we have to make moves to truly compete if that’s the route we want to go. The trades might need to be a piece here or there

Not sure any of the 3 teams involved do it:

Not enough for CGY
TOR: accepts the return, but they are in a win now mode, and so futures probably dont get it done, they would need a okay Nylander replacement
NASH: too much of a hurry trading too many futures, especially for two UFAs who probably dont want to resign while NASH rebuilds

I don’t think the return for lindholm is much different from nylander. Svechkov is a center prospect that was drafted 19th 2 years ago and prokop is a solid defensive prospect. While tomasino is a more proven he’s a winger and carrier probably has topped out on his potential. And the first going back in the lindholm is likely to be better than the 25 Tampa bay 1st.

Isn’t Tomasino an ok Nylander replacement?

We might have to add another piece to the lindholm trade.

As far as Nashville these moves would put Nashville in the compete now instead of rebuilding. Nashville didn’t make any moves to suggest they want to rebuild. Johansen was dead weight and duchene had apparent character problems, even though I don’t agree with the buyout. If they would have not signed anyone I would behind the statement of a rebuild but signing O’Reilly, Nyquist and shenn shows me they still wanna be competitive. These moves would prove they wanna compete for the cup.

You are putting too much stock on his draft. Personally I am not that high on Svechkov. If the Flames are moving Lindholm I would want a top 50 prospect and a 1st coming back at minimum. Prokop is a B prospect at best right now. He has an outside chance at a depth role in the NHL. That doesn't mean he won't make it but I wouldn't rate him any higher than Yan Kuznetsov in the Flames pool

No tomasino is not an ok Nylander replacement. If you trading because you want to win, now you have the answer. TO is in win now, they aren't downgrading their team to help you.

Because Nylander gets points at an 82% clip, while Lindholm gets 69.

They want to be competitive but they are retooling and not in a rush. I don't think they would be too upset if they get a top 5 pick next year, but I imagine they will be looking to add a top 6 C (only) at the trade deadline if possible.

Lol you can't possible be using their whole careers to prove a point can you? Because neither player has changed at all since they were 19 years old.

Lindholm is 1) a center, 2) not a defensive liability, 3) just as good offensively at 5v5. Congrats to Nylander for being the 4th best forward on his teams very lethal powerplay I guess.

If you don't believer me just look here. And that's just this year where "Nylander was way better."

Why would any rebuilding team ever acquire Nylander going into his UFA year.

You'd think any GM would have learned from Ottawa's mistake with DeBrincat.

So they are giving up Tomasino, Svechkov, Carrier, Prokop, 1st, 1st, 2nd for two rentals? That may be too many eggs in the “win now” bucket for a team that has been selling off for last year.

I would take it and then just flip the futures for more help today. I don’t really have any interest in Carrier though. If you just have Novak on the 4th line I’d want to swap out Carrier for Novak, cheap scoring would be of way more interest
