Weird trade line but MTL doesn't do this. They likely just keep Hoffman till contracts up and Armia likely gets moved at the TDL 50% retained a year from now when he is in his last year

Are you proposing that other players are moved before the two to figure out the roster? Still have too many players, the two of them are the weakest links and the obvious choices to be moved. I agree though that this deal doesn't happen. Kent might be in a tough place with the roster, but he wouldn't go against what he said previously about cap dumps.

I think they either waive players if they get out played in training camp or use Slafs exempt status to send him to Laval. Maybe they sneak Ylonen through waivers when that big dump one comes at the end of teams preseasons but either way it'll be easy enough to get the roster down to size.

I think they'd much prefer if Hoffman and Armia play their way into the line up this preseason but I also think that management is at the point that they're willing to just send them down if they look worst than the youth. It will still be a long leash with them, the youth will have to thoroughly out play them, it is a stronger possibility of them being waived this year though.

Why would MTL consider this? It does nothing for us except remove a 1st round pick from our possession.

Habs are trying to get out of these bad contracts as soon as possible. No way they take on Vlasic.

Sharks and Habs are not good trade partners. They both have bad contracts on the books and they are both trying to shorten the length of those deals.

If I proposed Vlasic for Gallagher, no retention on either, would you take that deal? Probably not cause the extra year is unattractive.

Just waive Pitlick and wideman then bury Hoffman in the minors. There fixed the issue

Who knows but at this price tag I'm not sure how you turn it down.

Easily.

Take one look at their remaining cap space after the Gustavsson signing.

You'll have your answer.

Okay.

Currently sitting at 1.64M in cap space.

MIN is taking on 1.675M in this deal. Use either the goalie in this trade as your backup or find a vet goalie unsigned for league min. Roughly 30K over the cap.

Faber goes down, temporarily. Get Addison signed, Rossi can go down (again temporarily). Accrue cap space. Call back up.

Seems like it can be done.

No it doesn't. Use your head.

1) Karlsson contract runs for FOUR more years.

That's four more years where BOTH Faber and Addison are blocked from being played to their potential in Minnesota's top 4. There is hardly anything temporary about that. Christ, Faber ALONE, is expected to play and take over Dumba's spot in the top 4 THIS coming season. Do you seriously expect Minnesota to wait 4 more years before playing him there? Let alone 2-3 years.

Karlsson is NOT, nor ever will be, a fit because of that.

2) Defenseman are the 2nd least needed position on Minnesota's current roster after goaltending.

They already have the young defensive talent who are already NHL ready, Faber and Addison... possibly Hunt, and all are either on ELC's or don't/won't break the bank. A retained Karlsson will STILL cost over $6M, because no team is going to retain that much for that long. That is not a economically feasible strategy.

Furthermore, Minnesota's defensive prospect pool is STACKED, it's among the best in the league. Blocking that pool isn't wise or advisable. I haven't a doubt it'll be used to acquire top-end talent, in time, but that time isn't now. Or will be used for positions the team doesn't need.

3) Moving Fleury is just creating a hole on the roster where there isn't one. And that's without considering his NMC. Which he would be required to waive. Something he's well on record in saying he's not willing to do, as he's tired of moving around.

He wants to break Roy's winning record and slide into 2nd place on the all-time list before he retires. He only needs 8 wins to do that. After that he'll be content to retire, which is the expectation after this season. In the meantime, he's more than comfortable being the backup behind Gustavsson.

So your idea and this trade as stated above is DOA.

4) The cap hurdles required to get this trade to work as posted above are worse then the ones that Guerin would of had to do to try and keep Fiala. Guerin already said F that and chose to keep the teams depth intact over keeping one player back then, what makes you so certain he'll change his mind for a player he'd have to acquire and isn't even a need?

This is pretty much a baby version of the OEL deal to Vancouver, trade out some expiring bad deal and take on a longer term one. Yes there's more retention but you're also sending a much worse player than Garland (At the time of the trade) so which GM with a brain would redo it? MAF has no value for a rebuilding team and with an NMC I guess he'd wish to end his career with a contender, thus why he signed for cheap (Easily transferable).

I thought maybe Vlasic would want to finish his career in Montreal since it's his home town. He won't win a cup in either SJ or Montreal.

being his home town is the reason he don't want to be here. He know how the media and the fan can be . (too much presure) he don't want it for him or his family. he said it long time ago in interview not in those word but that was the meaning of it.
