Well, the Pens definitely take that and run.

I'd prefer to keep Tippett. He's shown a lot of potential and 2024 isn't expected to be a talent heavy draft.

Ottawa will give you Joseph for Nino with retention straight up.

Why are we trading and retaining on Nino? He's a much better player than Joseph. The last thing the Jets need is another expensive winger, especially if they trade Schefiele

Not so much about those two as it is Brannstrom and the pick

In addition, the Jets won't be getting more than they paid for Nino.

And Ottawa has little, if any, interest in trading for him.

But why? They don't need Brannstrom and they need Nino

With the other additions, Nino is a trade asset. Brannstrom is a nice add with Dillon expiring or traded.

He's easily a better player than Joseph. Joseph is clearly the cap dump the sens need to sort, if not him and Brannstrom. You can say what you'd like, but I think your blinders are closed tight.

Brannstrom is not a "cap dump the Sens need to sort".

And trading Joseph for Nino does not solve our problems with the cap, even with the retention.

You can defend this trade all you want.

But Ottawa declines.

Try again.

Don't need to defend myself against a homer.

Dorian walked himself into a jam.

I know Brannstrom isn't a cap dump but it's either him or Joseph or potentially both. It's obvious to a blind man.

In that case, the solution would be to trade Brannstrom for value we can't get with trading Joseph.

And it wouldn't involve renting Nino.

Problem solved.

Sure, run a 21 man roster and be wiped if they make the playoffs.

It's what pains Dorian less. Low return on Brannstrom or pay to dump Joseph.

Isles D is set, no need for Dillon and that would put them over the cap even more than they already are.

I think if Kuhlman goes down, they'd be $300K under the cap. So, $1.5M out and $1.8M in works. Dillon is a big upgrade over Aho while Buldoc develops more.

Bolduc is on a 1 way deal so he is not going back down. And Aho is a better fit for the Isles as they need picking moving defenseman and Dillon is basically just a LH version of Mayfield. Lou is also not treading Martin, he will probably get another 4 year deal after this year, and the Isles are not paying a 2nd for a player then don’t need.

This is a pretty bad trade for Ottawa

I could understand Joseph + 2nd for Nino if they had the same AAV but giving up Brannstrom for free is a big NO

But without Brannstrom then the Sens don’t save any salary so useless trade

Solution? Trade Kubalik for a pick
